Leopardstown Monday review: Willie Mullins' stars shine

Leopardstown Monday review: Treble tops for red-hot Mullins. Saint Roi and Lossiemouth were the highlights of a sparkling Willie Mullin's treble at Leopardstown on Monday. The former came from last to first to open his account over fences in the Brand New Racing Post App Novice Chase. The seven-year-old had found the reopposing Fil Dor four lengths too strong on his chasing debut at Navan last month. Visionarian gave a bold sight in front for much of the Grade One contest. But Saint Rui's class kicked in on the level and he proved two and a quarter lengths ahead in end.

Lossiemouth won the Knight Frank Juvenile Hurdle. She is favourite for the Triumph HURDLE at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Gala Marceau finished second.  Lioness is a French recruit trained by Paul Townend. He is pleased with her performance. The next target is the Dublin Racing Festival. It was not a straightforward race. Lossiemour had to get down and dirty and grind it out. In a truly-run race you would see the true mare.

Willie Mullins and Townend won the Thorntons Recycling Maiden Hurdle with Dark Raven. DarkRaven won twice in the bumper sphere in 2021 but hadn't been seen in competitive action since the latter of those triumphs at Fairyhouse 631 days ago. Paul Townen's mount made a successful comeback by three lengths from Doctor Bravo.

High Definition won the All About Sunday Maiden Hurdle at Leopardstown. It was his first start for Joseph O'Brien. He was trained by his father Aidan. The sponsors cut High Definition to 16/1 from 28s for the Sky Bet Supreme at Cheltenham. Paddy Power and Betfair are 20s from 25s. Willie Mullins finished third. His horse was well fancied. A filly in bumpers finished in third place. They will consider running at the Chelenham Grand National. There are many well-fancied horses in the race.
