Lions vs Sharks Predictions

The Sharks form coming into this game is far better than their hosts. I am backing the visitors to cover the -5 handicap.

  • Lions have lost 4 of their last 5 URC matches.
  • Sharks have won 4 of their last 5 URC matches.
  • Sharks have won their last 4 matches against the Lions.

Head to Head

The Sharks have had the better of this fixture, beating the Lions in both matches last season.

Lions Form

The Lions are down in 13th place on the URC table with five wins and seven defeats from their 12 matches. They do have a game in hand on many of those above them but are five points off the Ospreys in 12th.

This entire season the Lions have been inconsistent both home and away. They have achieved some impressive results but have suffered defeats when they should really have won.

Over their last three matches the Lions have lost 17-7 at Stade Francais in the Challenge Cup, beaten the Dragons 30-25 away in the URC and then lost 43-25 at Connacht in their last match.

Lions Injuries & Team News

The Lions have a few injury concerns and squad depth has been a problem for them this season.

Sharks Form

The Sharks are vastly improved from earlier in the season where they really struggled. They have put themselves back into playoff contention in the URC, and qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions Cup.

Currently the Sharks are eighth on the URC table and just four points off the playoff spots. The Durban-based outfit were very impressive at the end of January, beating Edinburgh 22-19 away.

However, as impressive they were in Scotland, the Sharks were woeful the following week at home against the Stormers. They suffered a humiliating 46-29 loss at Kings Park, something Neil Powel will want to rectify this weekend.

Sharks Injuries & Team News

Vincent Tshituka and Dylan Richardson both return from injury this weekend. Grant Williams is also back at scrumhalf with Francois Venter starting at centre.  Werner Kok is also back from the treatment room and starts at wing.
