It was a bombshell that shocked the entire football world.

On Friday, Jurgen Klopp announced that this will be his last season as Liverpool manager. The club’s most successful coach of the modern era will depart Anfield two years before his contract expires.

“You have to be the best version of yourself, especially for a club like Liverpool where it means so much, and I can not do it on three wheels,” he explained.

“It is not allowed. I have never wanted to be a passenger. My managerial skills are based on energy and emotion and that takes all of you and needs all of you. I am who I am and where I am because of how I am, with all the good and bad things, and if I can not do it any more then stop it.

“It was not my idea [to leave the club] when I signed a new contract. I was 100 percent convinced in this moment that we would go until 2026. I judged it wrong. I underestimated [it] because I thought my energy level was endless and now it is not.”

The Anfield crowd will make their feelings for Klopp known when Norwich City visit on Sunday.

The German has brought Liverpool huge success over the last nine years. But that is not the only reason he is idolised. Klopp identifies with the cause of the city, the political leanings of its supporters, and what it means to be a Liverpool manager. Just like Bill Shankly, he made the people happy.

Klopp, who has already confirmed that he will never manage another English club, will be determined to go out on a high.

Liverpool are already through to the final of the EFL Cup and they are now eyeing a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup. It is hard to imagine Norwich stopping them.

Riding a wave of emotion at Anfield, Liverpool could blow Norwich City away on Sunday afternoon.

Norwich City may well be Liverpool’s favourite opponents. The Canaries have bounced between the Premier League and Championship over the last decade or so, but whichever division they are in they never relish facing their upcoming opponents.

You have to go all the way back to 1994 to find the last time Norwich beat Liverpool. The Reds have won 12 and drawn one of the last 13 head-to-head meetings in all competitions.

The aggregate scoreline in that time is 43-13. Norwich have conceded five goals on four separate occasions. It is fair to say this fixture is not one they traditionally look forward to.

Klopp’s shock announcement has probably made their task even harder. Liverpool’s players and fans will be galvanised by the news. Klopp is a universally popular figure at the club and the home team will be determined to put on a show now that the countdown to his departure has officially begun.

That is bad news for Norwich, who have lost three of their last four away games in the Championship and are about to face a team that has not been beaten at home by an English side for 15 months.

The Canaries will have to hope that Lady Luck is smiling on them on Sunday.

Contrary to popular perception, Liverpool have not always been the fastest starters this season.

Previous Klopp teams have come firing out of the blocks and blown opponents away within the first 30 minutes, especially at Anfield.

But this current side is not as intense or full throttle as earlier iterations. It can take them a little longer to get going.

For instance, consider the fact that Liverpool have only been ahead at half–time in a third of their 21 Premier League home fixtures to date.

This time, though, we fancy Liverpool’s chances of making a quick start. That makes the above wager look attractive.

Norwich have failed to score in three of their last four league games on the road. A Liverpool clean sheet would make this bet successful provided they score either side of half-time. Even without Mohamed Salah, that looks easily achievable.

Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez both notched braces in Liverpool’s last Premier League game, a 4-0 thumping of Bournemouth.

Luis Diaz was then on target in the 1-1 draw with Fulham that sent the Reds through to the final of the EFL Cup in midweek.

Klopp will be delighted that his three main forwards sans Salah are all finding the net. It remains to be seen whether all of them will start this FA Cup tie, however.

Cody Gakpo was given the nod ahead of Jota against Fulham, while there is an outside chance that a youngster could be included in the XI here.

Given he was left out at Craven Cottage, Jota is likely to return to the team in this one. He will be in a confident mood after his double against Bournemouth, so the Portuguese has an excellent chance of finding the net here too.
