Maple Leafs vs. Predators prop bets: Bet on another big night from Matthews

The Toronto Maple Leafs wrap up their back-to-back when they take on the Nashville Predators tonight.

The pregame narrative: Auston Matthews is on fire and there’s no reason to believe he’ll slow down against the Predators’ subpar defence. We’re backing him two different ways and also expecting Michael Bunting to find the scoresheet.

NHL odds as of 11:13 a.m. on 03/26/2023.

Best Bet: Matthews over 4.5 shots (+115)

Matthews recorded a season-high 15 shots on goal last night against the Carolina Hurricanes. We’re asking for one-third of that production tonight.

Toronto’s sniper was dealing with a nagging wrist injury for most of the season but it looks like he’s put that ailment behind him. Matthews has recorded at least four shots on goal in 10 of his last 11 games, clearing this line in six of those contests.

He’s averaging a blistering 5.58 shots per game in March and is also faced with a plus matchup tonight.

The Predators allow 32.8 shots against per 60 which is the seventh-most in the NHL, according to NaturalStatTrick. They also gave up 39 shots last night to the Seattle Kraken.

Nashville didn’t allow any single player to record five shots in that contest, but three different members of the Kraken recorded four shots. Matthews is the type of player to get that extra marker and we’re confident he’ll pepper the crease tonight.

Key stat: Matthews leads the NHL with 67 shots on goal this month.

Quick picks

Matthews to score (-125): When a player is creating as many chances as Matthews is, goals are sure to follow.

Last year’s Rocket Richard winner has scored in six of his last nine games with eight total goals in that span. He’s netted two goals in each of his past two games and is shooting 21% in that span.

The point is, when Matthews gets hot, opposing goalies are in trouble. At -125 we’re more than happy to hop on the bandwagon.

Bunting to record a point (+112): Bunting has a point in three of his past five games and we like the value on him to keep things rolling tonight.

He’s not riding shotgun with Matthews and Mitch Marner anymore, but John Tavares and William Nylander aren’t exactly bad linemates, either.

The 27-year-old is averaging 3.25 shots in his past four games and his line should have plenty of chances against a Nashville team that’s allowing 4.2 goals per game over its past five.
