Mariners vs Padres Prediction, MLB Odds & Best Bets (June 6)

Tuesday, June 6’s MLB schedule sees the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres beginning a two-game series at Petco Park. Both sides have struggled to maintain consistency lately, leaving time to tell who’ll emerge the victor from the first Mariners vs Padres showdown of the week.

The Mariners head into tonight’s matchup after suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of the Texas Rangers, allowing 28 total runs in the last two games alone. The sweep has now dropped Seattle to 1-5 in its last six games.

The Padres, on the other hand, just split a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs at Petco Park. San Diego has now alternated between wins and losses over its eight outings, having not won back-to-back contests since May 25/26.

Can the Mariners put their losing ways behind them to avoid falling further below .500? Or will the Padres begin to close the gap in the NL West with another hard-fought effort?

Here’s a look at everything you know heading into tonight’s Mariners vs Rangers showdown, from the latest betting odds to a prediction with the best betting recommendation, courtesy of Betting News.

Mariners vs Padres Game Preview

The Mariners need a monumental effort if they hope to turn things around tonight.

After all, Bob Melvin’s club has found close to zero success on the road lately, losing seven of their past eight road games. What’s even more unfortunate is the fact that they’re surrendering 7.9 runs per game while only averaging 3.4 themselves over that span.

If that trend is going to change, starting pitcher Logan Gilbert must rebound from his last performance. The 26-year-old righty last pitched against the New York Yankees on May 30, giving up two homers and five runs on seven hits over just four innings of work, leading to a 10-2 loss for the Mariners.

The good news for Seattle is that Gilbert has had previous success in San Diego. He was victorious in his sole start at Petco Park on July 5, 2022, striking out one batter while allowing two runs on six hits with three walks over 5 1/3 innings.

Meanwhile, Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove has looked better in his last few starts after a rocky start to the 2023 MLB season.

Musgrove has won his last two starts, picking up wins over the Yankees and Miami Marlins. The former World Series Champion has only given up two runs on nine hits over that span while also striking out nine batters over 12 1/3 innings.

Having said that, the veteran arm has struggled against the Mariners in the past. In six matchups (four starts) with Seattle, Musgrove is 1-1 with a 6.65 ERA and 1.652 WHIP.

It’s also hard to gauge if the home-field advantage will truly be that beneficial for the Padres. After all, they’ve lost six of their last nine home games and, while they picked up a 5-0 win over the Cubs in their last home outing, they haven’t won back-to-back contests at Petco Park in over one month.

On top of that, San Diego is just 2-6 in its last eight games against the American League, as well as 2-4 in its previous six encounters with the AL West. In other words, it appears as if tonight’s Mariners vs Padres showdown could go either way.

Mariners vs Padres Game Prediction and Picks

Mariners vs Padres Prediction: Rangers 4, Mariners 2

Mariners vs Padres: Padres ML (Best Value: -142 at FanDuel) & Padres to Score Over 4 Runs (Best Value: -102 at FanDuel)

In a game between two teams struggling to maintain consistency, I’m taking the Padres to win. The Mariners have been brutal away from home and it’s tough trusting a team that’s allowed 28 runs over two games. The Padres have their issues, too, but they’re coming off a win and should get another reliable pitching performance from Musgrove.

I also recommend backing the Padres to score more than four runs tonight as another solid bet. For starters, the Mariners have allowed four-plus runs in four of their last six games, surrendering an average of 8.3 during that span. Furthermore, the Padres have hit the over in nine of their last 14 contests.

Considering Gillbert’s recent struggles, I don’t see San Diego having any issues scoring runs tonight.
