Marketa Vondrousova vs Madison Keys prediction and odds: US Open 2023

Recent Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova will be in action at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday evening (British Summer Time), as she takes on Madison Keys in a quarter-final tie. Can the Czech player reach a second Grand Slam semi-final in quick succession? You can find our tennis predictions below.

Our favourite Marketa Vondrousova vs Madison Keys predictions

Vondrousova has enjoyed a fantastic summer season and she’s now on the verge of reaching the final four of a Grand Slam for the second time in less than two months, though standing in her way is someone with the luxury of playing on home soil. Madison Keys is in fine form and can certainly have a big say here. Below are my WTA US Open 2023 predictions for this match:

Marketa Vondrousova to win @ 23/20 (2.15)

This is by no means an easy match to call. Madison Keys has the home crowd on her side and is clearly in hot form, though to my eyes, the early betting market isn’t quite giving Vondrousova the respect that she clearly deserves. The recent Wimbledon winner must now be considered a top player, so it’s hard to agree that odds of 23/2o are fair. On that basis, she goes down as a value selection here.

The Czech player battled hard to see off Peyton Stearns, which is probably a better win than the bare figures suggest. Stearns had sizable home support in that match, which helped her to a narrow first-set win. From there, it would’ve been easy for Vondrousova to crumble, but she knuckled down and shifted through the gears, producing tennis that was simply too good for her opponent. Prior to that, we saw her comprehensively beat Alexandrova, which tells me that she’s good enough to see off her lower-ranked opponent here.

Three sets to be played @ 11/8 (2.38)

Whoever comes out on top here, a short match seems unlikely. Both players have displayed battling qualities at Flushing Meadows and neither are likely to go down without a real fight. Keys could very easily start strongly if the crowd really gets behind her, but as we saw last time out, Vondrousova can fight back in fierce style.

At the end of the day, we’re talking about two players who are clearly both in fine form, so expect this to be something of a drawn-out battle, one that can go distance.

Madison Keys enjoys playing in New York, especially at Flushing Meadows, where she has reached the final before, finishing as the US Open runner-up back in 2017. Can she take on step further to reaching a second final at this tournament by beating a recent Grand Slam winner? Below is a quick preview of the two players involved in this match.

Marketa Vondrousova preview

Marketa Vondrousova is clearly in the form of her life. After losing in the second round of the French Open back in late May, the Czech player has moved rapidly in the right direction. She was imperious on the grass, winning all but one of her ten grass-court matches, going on a seven-match winning streak that culminated in her lifting the iconic Wimbledon trophy on centre court. She’s looked strong on the hard courts too, winning nine out of 11 since the switch to this surface. The 24-year-old now bids to enter a third Grand Slam semi-final of her career.

Madison Keys preview

Keys is another player who had fun on the grass this year. She reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, while she’s played some great matches since returning to the US to play on the hard stuff. A couple of lesser efforts in Montreal and Cincinnati preceded her entrance at the US Open, but she’s clearly put that behind her and has looked strong at Flushing Meadows. After beating world number three Pegula last time out, she’ll be confident in her bid to reach a third US Open semi-final.

Vondrousova vs Keys head to head

The pair have not previously faced each other, making this their first ever showdown on the court.
