Max Duggan has Tank Carder to thank for TCU CFP opportunity

Tank Carder's two-point conversion in the 2011 Rose Bowl helped Texas Christian move to the Big 12 Conference. The team won every regular season game in its last two years in that conference. Gary Patterson's team almost qualified for the CFP after sharing the championship with Baylor in 2014. He resigned as coach eight games into the 2021 season. TCU is playing in a College Football Playoff semifinal this season, beating Michigan 51-45 last week.

The American Athletic Conference is about to be formed. Four teams will join the Big 12. Nebraska and Colorado left the conference. TCU is in the CFP this year. The Big12 didn't have a championship game in 2014. It's too many games for college kids on college campuses.

Sonny Dykes took over a struggling TCU football team and has improved the team's performance. TCU had 488 yards of offense against Michigan and forced a turnover on downs. The team is expected to stay among the elite even with an expanded playoff format. Ohio State's CJ Stroud tossed four touchdowns with 348 yards against Stetson Bennett's defending champion Bulldogs. Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson is the corner who picked off JJ McCarthy twice. He's the nephew of Tre’Vious Hodge. Texas Tech's Quentin Johnson is a receiver who is considered among top NFL draft prospects.
