Trainer Willie Mullins’ traveling foreman, David Casey, has had the unique privilege of getting up close and personal with Vauban, but it’s not all smooth sailing.
The six-year-old gelding has a ticklish side and a penchant for nibbling on the hands that brush his coat.
Casey recently discovered this during a grooming session when Vauban playfully nipped at him, leaving a noticeable bruise.
Despite these occasional episodes, punters remain unfazed, rallying behind Vauban as he shortens to $3.50 favouritism with online betting sites for the upcoming Melbourne Cup 2023 after being at $4.20 this time last week.
