Watch 📺 Vauban books his Melbourne Cup 2023 ticket

Classy dual-purpose star Vauban clinched victory in the Ballyroan Stakes at Naas, securing a spot in the Melbourne Cup 2023.

Trained by Willie Mullins, Vauban previously won the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot.

Under jockey Colin Keane, Vauban tracked the leaders Gooloogong and Pivotal Trigger, surging ahead in the final stretch to win by a length-and-a-half.

David Casey, Mullins’ assistant trainer, expressed satisfaction with Vauban’s performance.

“We’re delighted with him and Colin was happy. He said they went a good gallop, a nice even pace, and it suited him.” Casey said.

Casey noted that the race fulfilled the goal of qualifying Vauban for the Melbourne Cup, and Mullins will decide whether to participate in more races before the Melbourne Cup.

“All those races are options, the Leger Trial and the Leger. I don’t know what he’s going to do but he’s entered in them all if he needs them,” Casey said.

Vauban is currently the $11 favourite with Ladbrokes for the Melbourne Cup on November 7 at Flemington.
