Mets vs. Padres score, takeaways: San Diego knocks out 101-win New York with Wild Card Series one-hitter

The San Diego Padres beat the New York Mets 6-0 in Game 3 of their Wild Card Series. The Padres are the first team to throw a one-hitter in a winner-take-all postseason game. They will now take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS starting on Tuesday.

Mets manager Buck Showalter asked the umpires to check Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove for foreign substances. The check didn't work, and Musgrave remained in the game. He allowed a single and a walk in seven otherwise spotless innings. According to MLB.com, Musrove is the first pitcher in history to throw at least seven innings with no more than two hits allowed in a winner-take-all postseason game, as he did in Game 3.

Chris Bassitt was ineffective in the Wild Card Series against San Diego. The Padres hitters stepped out a lot against Bassit. Bassett threw 61 pitches and the Padres swung and missed twice. The Mets lost the series 3-0. San Francisco won the last two games. They beat New York 101-win. Bob Melvin managed Bassist with the Athletics from 2015-21. He knows him well. Buck Showalter didn't mind the batters stepping out.

Trent Grisham was the Wild Card Series MVP. He took out Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom in the first two games and then he drove in a run in Game 3. Grisha also saved a score with a great running catch in center in fifth inning.

San Diego beat New York Mets in the Wild Card Series. Juan Soto and Jeff McNeil did something unusual in Game 3. Sato bunted a sacrifice bunted for the second time in his MLB career. Mc Neil struck out for first time since September 20. The Padres are going to play the Dodgers in NLDS. The Division Series is scheduled for Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.

The Padres are 12 outs away from a one-hitter. Grisham saved a run with a great running catch. Lindor and Alonso are the only two hitters who can provide a big swing with men on base.

The Mets are down 7-0 in the fifth inning. They put seven on the board last night.

Juan Soto bunted a runner to second and Manny Machado followed with a line shot single to score another run. It's 4-0 Padres here in the top of the fifth.
