Mets vs Red Sox: Sunday Night Baseball Prediction (July 23)

Sunday Night Baseball is here once again, and tonight we get a showdown between the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox.

These teams have split two close ones to start this series, and tonight on ESPN, we get to declare a winner!

Both these teams sit in 4th place in their respective divisions, yet the Red Sox have a much better record. Playing in the gauntlet that is the AL East, Boston is 52-47 on the year and 27-23 at Fenway Park.

The New York Mets are 46-52 overall and 23-30 on the road this year. They are 17.5 games back from the Atlanta Braves who lead the division by 11 games, so playoff hopes are slowly dwindling.

The AL East will likely send three teams into the postseason, so the Red Sox have plenty of reasons to come out and win this game.

Let’s breakdown tonight’s Sunday Night Baseball matchup!

Mets vs Red Sox Prediction & Best Bets

These two teams split games that both ended on Saturday, thanks to some weather on Friday Night.

Later that day, the Red Sox were down 3-2 after 4 innings in the second game of a double header. They went on to score 1 run in the bottom of the 5th, 2 runs in the 6th, and 3 in the 7th to take a commanding 8-3 lead.

The Mets would score 3 in the 9th, but the Red Sox walked away with the victory.

Tonight on the national stage, I think Boston wins this game and series at home.

The Pick: Red Sox -1.5 (+130) Bovada

Boston are Top 5 in runs, hits, and batting average this season. They are explosive on offense, cracking the Top 10 in slugging percentage and OBP as well.

Putting up nearly 5 runs a game, paired with an opposing pitcher like Carrasco with a 5.75 ERA, I think we see the Red Sox light him up.

I’ve also got a player prop that I love and will be looking to take advantage of.

Player Props

Masataka Yoshida over 1.5 Total Bases (-113)

Yoshida gets 2+ Bases in 56% of games this season. At Fenway Park, that number jumps up to 60%.

In his L30 in Boston, Yoshida has 2+ bases in 20 games, and in 7 of his L10 home contests.

He has 21 total bases in his last 10 home games, and 28 bases in his last 10 overall. Yoshida bats .327 off of RHP this season, and last night he went 3/4 with 3 singles.

Have I mentioned he’s been hot recently?

Yoshida has 16 hits in his last 10 games, and 7 have been for extra bases.

Clearing his line in 7 of his last 10 overall, I’ll gladly lay minimal juice for him to do it again.

Bonus Bet: Yoshida 3+ Bases (+185)
