THE LOWDOWN
MI NEW YORK
MI New York are the latest incarnation of the MI franchise, originating from IPL side Mumbai Indians. It’s a star-studded line-up which is captained by West Indian legend Kieron Pollard. Rashid Khan headlines the big-name attractions, whilst Trent Boult’s left arm pace should lead to wickets both in the powerplay and at the death. The bowling attack in particular looks a formidable unit, with quick bowler Kagiso Rabada complimenting Boult and Jason Behrendorff, whilst all-rounder David Wiese is also a handy option. There is also plenty of firepower with the bat on the overseas front, Australian Tim David and West Indian Nicholas Pooran both being notorious boundary hitters, whilst young South African Dewald Brevis continues his relationship with the MI franchise.
SAN FRANCISCO UNICORNS
San Francisco Unicorns is notable for its relationship with Cricket Victoria, which has no doubt contributed to a number of Australian players making their way over to the Bay Area to play their cricket in this season’s MLC. Aaron Finch of Melbourne Renegades captains the side, whilst all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and bowler Brody Couch both ply their trade with Victoria. There will also be English representation within the Unicorns in the shape of ICC Cricket World Cup winner Liam Plunkett. The former Yorkshire bowler was arguably the first really notable cricketer to move over to the United States and has spent the last couple of years playing Minor League Cricket. His experience should be crucial to this Unicorns side, as will that of all-rounder Corey Anderson. Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf add a sprinkling of star quality from Pakistan, Shadab a leg-spinning all-rounder and Rauf a fast bowler.
