Michael Beale breaks silence on Morgan Whittaker transfer with Rangers boss at odds with Swansea bid claims

RANGERS boss Michael Beale has broken his silence on the Ibrox club's move for Swansea winger Morgan Whittaker - and he appears to be at-odds with their gaffer Russell Martin.

SunSport revealed at the beginning of the week that the Ibrox club had submitted a six figure offer for the English youngster in the region of £900,000.

The Light Blues are looking to bolster their attacking options and Whittaker could provide a solution to the problem position on the right hand side.

22-year-old Whittaker has been in stellar form in the first half of the campaign whilst out on loan at high flying Plymouth Argyle in League One.

Swansea boss and former Ibrox defender Russell Martin yesterday confirmed that the South Wales side had indeed knocked back a bid from the Ibrox side.

The former Scotland international revealed that the Swans have knocked back bids for both Whittaker and Irish striker Michael Obafemi, who's subject of interest from Burnley.

Speaking of interest in his players, Martin said: "We have rejected an offer from them, that's it.

"No-one is selling anyone on the cheap - they are good players."

"We will just have to wait and see. It's not my remit - I don't value the players, I don't negotiate with the other clubs.

"We have rejected bids for Michael and Morgan. That's where that remains really."

However, Gers boss Beale insists that he's none the wiser to any bid for the player being turned down.

He was questioned on the matter in the aftermath of last night's 3-2 thrilling Premiership win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The Ibrox gaffer insisted that he 'didn't know' a bid had been unleashed - although he was happy to talk up Whittaker's qualities.

Asked about Swans boss Martin's claims of the bid rejection, Beale replied: "Did he really? I didn’t know we had made a bid but I will talk about the player.

“They have recalled him for a reason.

"I would say that he was one of the better - if not the best - player in League One in the first half of the season and unless they have recalled him to play him, they must have recalled him to move him to a higher level.

“I think he’s a good player but there is nothing more than that.

"And that is not what I have been told in-house.”
