Michigan football another massive betting favorite vs. Purdue

Oddsmakers are expecting the Michigan football team to win big this weekend.

Really big.

The second-ranked Wolverines opened as 30-plus point betting favorites for their game Saturday against Purdue (7:30 p.m., NBC), with a good chance they close as five-possession favorites.

Michigan (8-0, 5-0 Big Ten) is a 32 1/2-point favorite at BetMGM, Caesars and BetRivers, 32-point favorites at DraftKings and 31 1/2-point favorites at FanDuel, as of publishing time on Sunday evening.

If it holds, it would be the largest point spread in the Wolverines’ favor since 2018, when Michigan closed as as a 36 1/2-point favorite against Rutgers. Two weeks ago, the Wolverines beat Indiana, 52-7, as 31 1/2-point favorites.

Michigan is 4-3-1 against the spread this season, and covered in the last three games after failing to cover in its first four. Meanwhile, Purdue (2-6, 1-4 Big Ten) is 2-6 against the spread and has failed to cover in its last three games.

On the field, the Wolverines are beating their opponents by more than 34 points per game on average, a figure helped by the last three games: Wins over Minnesota, Indiana and Michigan State by more than 40 points each.

The program has been under scrutiny in recent weeks, facing two separate NCAA investigations for impermissible recruiting violations, improper use of coaches, and watching player workouts on Zoom, and a potential violation for in-person scouting.
