Minnesota Twins vs Chicago White Sox Prediction 7-22-23 MLB Picks

The Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins meet Saturday in MLB action from Target Field. This will be the second installment in a three-game series over the weekend. On Friday in the opener, we had a Twins victory after an early offensive onslaught. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox had one offensive dud game in the Mets series this week, but otherwise they scored pretty well with a combined 17 runs in three games. Yasmani Grandal managed two RBI and a run in the finale. On Friday the Sox got a two-run blast from Yasmani Grandall and a solo shot from Andrew Benintendi but the offense couldn’t catch up after the early deficit.

Starting pitcher for Chicago on Saturday will be Dylan Cease. Over 20 starts so far Cease is 4-3 with a 4.18 ERA and 129 strikeouts over 107.2 innings. Cease posted one earned in 5.0 innings during a win over Atlanta in his last start.

Minnesota Twins

Over on the Twins’ side, they had mixed results in a split with the Mariners this week. Matt Wallner was the only player with multiple hits (2-for-4) in Thursday’s shutout loss. In the Sox opener, Minnesota’s offense provided five first-inning runs in a 9-4 win. Alex Kirilloff and Byron Buxton both went 2-for-4 with four RBI each.

Sonny Gray will take starter duties for the Twins on Saturday. Across his 19 starts in 2023 Gray is 4-4 with a 3.16 ERA and 106 strikeouts over 105.1 innings. Gray lost to the Mariners in his last start, posting five earned in 5.2 innings.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll go with the Sox in this one. Cease needs to post a quality outing, though. Prior to his last start, Cease had eight earned in a span of 11.1 innings; that’s probably not going to do it here. The good news for the White Sox is that Gray is struggling right now with 11 earned in 11.2 innings over his last two starts—an 0-2 span. Chicago should be able to get some baserunners early on in Saturday’s game. The White Sox have some good news bullpen-wise after only using two pitchers (Lance Lynn and Bryan Shaw) in the opener. With a strong showing behind Cease, I can see a Sox win to even things up in game two.
