MLB notebook: Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts opts out of contract

Xander Bogaerts opts out of his contract with the Red Sox and becomes a free agent. Biaverts is the most productive offensive shortstop in baseball for the last five years. Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani and Yordan Alvarez are the finalists for American League MVP. Justin Verlander is a heavy favorite to win his third Cy Young Award. Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt and Manny Machado are contenders for NL MVP, while Nolan Areado and Paul Gredschit are also finalists. The BBWAA revealed finalists of the Cy young awards, Rookies of Year and Managers of The Year.

Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Rafael Palmeiro are on the eight-man ballot for the Hall of Fame's contemporary baseball era committee. Albert Belle, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Dale Murphy and Curt Schilling are also on it.

Chicago White Sox picked up Tim Anderson's $12.5 million option for the 2023 season. Josh Harrison declined his $5. 5 million buyout and becomes a free agent. Carlos Correa is one of nine players who exercised their options to become free agents. Minnesota Twins will decline contract options on Chris Archer, Dylan Bundy and Miguel Sano. The lottery for amateur draft will take place on Dec. 6 at the winter meetings in San Diego. Washington, Oakland and Pittsburgh have the best odds of getting the top pick at 16.25%. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati both went 62-100.
