MLB Season Award Predictions

Opening day is this week and the 2023 MLB season will officially be underway. Last years awards races one of the most debated in recent years and this seasons is set to be down to the wire as well. Here is who will walk away with the awards at the end of the season.

AL MVP

Shohei Ohtani- Shohei Ohtani was the runner up for the AL MVP last season, just being edged out by an insane Aaron Judge home run hitting season. However, even with Judge’s incredible season, the AL MVP came down to the wire.

Ohtani is only 28 years old and is seemingly getting better every season as the 2021 AL MVP had a historical campaign in the World Baseball Classic, leading Japan to the championship, winning the title and being named WBC MVP.

If Ohtani plays like he did in the WBC, he is primed to have another jaw dropping season and will end the year as the MVP so long as Judge doesn’t hit 60+ home runs.

NL MVP

Ronald Acuna Jr- Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr is one of the most talented young players in all of baseball. Acuna Jr has a rare combination of power and speed, and with the new base rules, he will be one of the ones that benefits the most for stealing bases.

The race for the NL MVP will likely come down to Juan Soto, Mookie Betts, Fernando Tatis, Trea Turner, Manny Machado, and Ronald Acuna Jr. However, Acuna Jr has the most upside of all of them, and is the most likely to take the next step up.

AL Cy Young

Jacob deGrom- Although this will be Jacob deGrom’s first season away from the Mets, he will be the main man in Texas as the Rangers will rely heavily on him to compete. The Rangers will still probably struggle but not while deGrom is on the mound.

NL Cy Young

Spencer Strider- The NL Cy Young Award is arguably the closest predicted award of them all, with Justin Verlander, Sandy Alcantara, and Corbin Burnes all predicted to win the award depending on who is talking. However, Atlanta Braves Starting Pitcher Spencer Strider has great odds as well, and at only 24 years old, Strider is ready to stake his claim as the best pitcher in the NL.

AL ROTY

Anthony Volpe- Anthony Volpe has had serious hype around him for years, and now he will play his first season in the MLB. Volpe was just recently announced as the Yankees starting shortstop, as he won the battle against Oswaldo Cabrera and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Now with Volpe starting from day one, there is a solid chance he beats out the likes of Gunnar Henderson and Masataka Yoshida.

NL ROTY

Corbin Carroll- Corbin Carroll and Jordan Walker will likely be the two battling for the NL Rookie of the Year, but like Acuna Jr, the new rules for base stealing with help Carroll a ton this season. Expect this award to come down to the wire, but ultmaitely Carroll just barely walks away with it.
