MLS is the leading candidate to be Cristiano Ronaldo's next destination

Cristiano Ronaldo's Saudi Arabian adventure hasn't gone exactly according to plan and there are suggestions that he could be looking to prematurely end his stay with Al Nassr, where he has a contract until 2025.

As for his next destination, the money appears to be on a move to Major League Soccer.

Ronaldo's current club Al Nassr were recently eliminated from the cup and are second in the Saudi Pro League, three points behind Al Ittihad, who have played a game less.

The Portuguese star does have a contract until 2025, but some betting sites are already speculating about where he could be playing his football next season.

MLS teams would love to bring the Ronaldo brand stateside and there was even an offer on the table from David Beckham's Inter Miami at one point.

Beckham's priority was to bring Lionel Messi to Florida, but, when Ronaldo's problems at Manchester United provided an opportunity, he tried to make the most of it.

Ultimately, though, the financial muscle of the Saudi side won out and Ronaldo headed to the Saudi Pro League.

The transition hasn't been as smooth as expected, though, and it is believed he would be open to a new challenge sooner rather than later.

Bookmakers have Ronaldo at 6/4 to join any MLS side in his next move. Meanwhile, a romantic move back to his native land with former team Sporting CP is the second most likely option according to Paddy Power, with odds of 2/1.

A little further down the list, Newcastle at 6/1 are thought to be interested in the 38-year-old, in a deal which would ironically be financed by Saudi money.

The possibility of Champions League football and perhaps a last hurrah in the Premier League could tempt Ronaldo to St James' Park.

And, as unlikely as it sounds, Manchester United at 16/1 and Real Madrid at 18/1 are also on the list.
