MLS Picks: Will 2021 Champs Make it Out of Quarterfinals?

The Conference semifinals are this week. Cincinnati, Philadelphia Union, Los Angeles FC and LA Galaxy are all playing for a place in the final.

Philadelphia Union finished first in the Eastern Conference and will play in MLS playoffs. They will face Cincinnati, who finished fifth in Eastern conference. Cincinnati beat New York Red Bulls in its playoff opener. The teams met in August and Cincinnati won 3-1. Philadelphia lost only five times in regular season.

Montreal and New York City FC are playing each other in the quarterfinals of the MLS Cup. Montreal finished second in Eastern Conference, while New Yorks City finished third. The last time the teams met in July, New Yorkers won 4-1 at Yankee Stadium. Montreal won the division with a record of 63 goals scored, and is on a seven-game unbeaten run.

LA Galaxy and LAFC are playing each other in the playoffs. LA Galaxy won 14 of its 34 regular season games and lost 12. Los Angeles Galaxy has scored 36 goals in 16 games against LA FC. The last meeting between the two teams was in July. Gareth Bale, Carlos Vela and Cristian Arango are all names who could win it for LA. Javier Hernandez could be the difference for the Galaxy.

Austin finished second in the Eastern Conference last season with 56 points. It scored one goal less than the Western Conference's top scorers, LAFC. Austin was fortunate to get through the last round in playoffs against Real Salt Lake. Dallas also had to come through on penalties, beating Minnesota in a tense shootout. They tied 2-2 and 1-1 in regular season meetings.
