Mookie Betts News: Dodgers All Star Among NL MVP Favorites Heading into 2023

It’s almost baseball season, which for a lot of people means it’s almost betting-on-baseball season. The preliminary lines are starting to come out, so you can get your early bets in on a lot of things.

One of those early lines is the National League MVP race, and Dodgers fans will find a familiar name near the top of those particular betting odds.

According to BetMGM (as passed along on MLB Network), LA outfielder Mookie Betts has the second best odds to win the NL MVP, trailing only Juan Soto of the Padres. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Paul Goldschmidt come in just behind Betts.

Mookie finished fifth in the MVP voting in 2022 after setting a career high with 35 home runs and leading the league with 117 runs scored. His Los Angeles teammate Freddie Freeman finished one spot ahead of him last year, but Freeman doesn’t show up on this short list of favorites for 2023.

Neither Soto nor Tatis received any votes in last year’s MVP race, Soto because he had a lousy year by his standards and Tatis because a couple stupid mistakes kept him from playing a single game all year. Goldschmidt, of course, won his first career MVP in 2022, with his teammate Nolan Arenado finishing third and Soto/Tatis’s teammate Manny Machado finishing second.

Betts struggled in 2021, missing time with a hip injury and playing at less than 100% for much of the time he was active. That was the only full season in his career in which he didn’t receive any MVP votes. Mookie won the 2018 AL MVP with the Red Sox and finished second in 2016 with Boston and in 2020 with the Dodgers.

Betts is a six-time Gold Glove winner and five time Silver Slugger winner. Get your bets in now!
