Multiple Graded Stakes Winning Horse Mawj to Start 2024 Season at Prestigious Venue

A large number of equines have already begun the 2024 horse racing season. However, a few horses are still getting ready for their first race. One of these few horses is the filly Mawj, who had a prolific 2023 season. The horse triumphed in two Grade 1 stakes, and the horse looks forward to starting its 2024 season in style in the prestigious Group 1 Jebel Hatta.

Word quickly spread on social media that Mawj was competing in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta. Mawj’s career has been a stellar one until the 2023 season, so the horse and its fans would be looking forward to the Group 1 race for a major start in 2024.

Mawj looking for another Gr. 1 victory

Word got out on Dubai Racing Club’s X post that the thoroughbred racehorse, which was born in Ireland, was going to Dubai. It would be an impressive beginning to the 2024 season for the filly, who will compete with nine other horses on the turf at Meydan Racecourse. While the 1800-meter course is certainly lengthy, the overall prize money for the event is AED 1,850,000 (about $503,675).

The ten horses entered in the race at the Meydan Racecourse would range in age from four to eight years old. Covering the first three gates of the racecourse would be El Patriota, Erzindjan, and Highland Avenue. San Donato, an 8-year-old gelding, will run from gate 5, while Ottoman Fleet would begin from gate 4. Further in the grid, Sean and Spirit Dancer would start from gates 6 and 7, respectively. The last three gates would be occupied by Measured Time, Silawi, and Mawj. Mawj surely seems to be the strongest horse on the grid, but anything can happen in the world of horse racing in the blink of an eye.

A close Breeders’ Cup Mile win

During the 2023 season, the Breeders Cup’ was an absolute joy. The horse racing world saw Mawj compete in the Breeders’ Cup mile, which had a thrilling final stretch as well. Win Carnelian, with odds of 40-1, and Astronomer, with odds of 50-1, were both racing furiously as the race got underway at the first bend. But Mawj, who was advancing fiercely from the midfield, was in their rearview mirror.

Mawj, though, was pretty sharp, as she took the lead of the race after finding a gap when the final turn came. But in the final furlongs, Master of The Seas came charging up from behind to almost catch the filly and take the victory away. Although Master of The Seas ran a fast final stretch, Mawj maintained her pace throughout the final moments to overcome the challenge and win the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
