Muzi Breezes To Feature Double
Muzi Yeni enjoyed a day to remember at Turffontein on Saturday! A little over a half hour after celebrating victory in the Betway Gr1 Summer Cup, he rode a tactical masterclass aboard Breeze Over in the non black-type R250 000 Racehorse Owners Association Stayers to bring up a feature race winning double he’ll never forget.
With the Tony Peter trained Flying Bull joining Mambo Come Tesio on the sidelines, only seven runners jumped away from the 3200m start on their marathon journey.
In the early stages, no one was keen to take make the running and top weight Nebraas was seen fighting for his head on the rails coming past the winning post for the first time.
Muzi Yeni got the lightly weighted Breeze Over across from his wide draw and eased to the front going into the first turn. With an uncontested lead of about two-lengths over Positive Attitude down the back straight the pace slowed considerably, and Yeni could allow his mount to gather his energy for the last couple of furlongs.
Breeze Over lead the field into the home straight and showed a good turn of foot to quicken away from the chasing pack around the 400m mark, and from thereon in was no contest.
Breeze Over (5-2) had 3,75 lengths to spare over Positive Attitude (20-1), winning in a time 212,92 secs.
In a strung out race, Flying First Class (33-1) was a further half length back in third.
The first three past the post all carried 50kg, all running under sufferance, interesting times for the handicappers on Monday.
It was a bad result for punters with all of Nebraas, Black Thorn and Arumugam missing out of the placings, helping boost the PA, and resulting in a first Jackpot payout of R4 308-10.
Trained by Mike and Adam Azzie, Breeze Over has now won three from fourteen starts for stakes of R415 500 for his connections, and could well pay to follow in staying events later in the Gauteng season.
A four-year-old gelding by Twice Over (Observatory) out of the Giant’s Causeway one-time winner Lebombo Breeze, Breeze Over was bred at Drakenstein Stud and was sold for R180 000 at the National Yearling Sales.
