New York Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs betting odds, picks, predictions

The New York Knicks (20-18, 4th in Atlantic) wrap up a two-game homestand as they take on the San Antonio Spurs (12-25, 4th in Southwest) on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

New York had one of its best defensive performances when holding the Phoenix Suns to a season-low 83 points in a 102-83 victory on Monday night.

The Spurs had no answer for the red-hot Brooklyn Nets as they allowed a season-high 139 points in a 139-103 loss in Brooklyn.

This is the second and final meeting between these two teams. San Antonio got the best of the Knicks less than a week ago in a 122-115 victory in the Lone Star State on Dec. 29.

Can New York extend its winning streak to three games or will the Spurs pull off the upset and sweep the season series? Here are my picks and predictions for this Tuesday night matchup with odds powered by Tipico Sportsbook.

Spread: Knicks -9.5 (-105)

The last time New York failed to cover the spread was against these Spurs last Thursday night. However, the team has great trends recently against the spread (ATS). The Knicks are 8-1-1 ATS in their previous 10 games after a straight up win, have covered eight of their past 11 matchups following a game they cover and are 11-4 against the spread in their last 15 overall.

Not only is San Antonio one of the worst teams in the league this year, its done a very poor job at covering the spread during the 2022-23 season. The Spurs have failed to cover the spread in 15 of their past 22 games, are 4-10 ATS in their prior 14 after they don't cover the game before and have not covered in four straight on the road.

Even though Knicks' star R.J. Barrett is still sidelined with a lacerated right index finger, I expect New York to still cover and will this matchup by double digits on its home court against a reeling San Antonio squad.

Don't hesitate to lay the -9.5 points with the Knicks in this spot.

Over/Under: Over 226.5 (-112)

New York has been superb on defense in its last two games, only allowing a combined 171 points against the Suns and Houston Rockets. Although I expect we see more than 226 points in this one and the trends back it up.

The Knicks have gone over the projected total in six of their last eight overall, are 4-1 to the over in their previous five games at home and have cashed the total going over in five of their past seven when playing on just one day of rest.

San Antonio ranks dead last in the NBA in opponents points per game, field percentage and three-point percentage. The team has surrendered at least 115 points in seven straight games. With such poor defensive play this year, the Spurs have not surprisingly been one of the best teams to the over. The total has gone over in 11 of their last 12 overall, seven straight matchups on the road and in their last four games after they give up at least 125 points in the game prior.

With one of the lowest over/unders on the slate Wednesday night, I'd hammer the over.

Moneyline: Knicks (-400)

It should be no surprise there's no value in taking New York on the moneyline against one of the worst teams in the NBA. The Knicks should easily take care of business tonight.

With that being said, some value plays I'd place a wager on instead of paying this heavy price would be the Knicks' team total over 118.5 points (-110), New York to cover the -5.5 spread in the first half (-110) and the Knicks' to win and the over 226.5 points scored at +122 (Bet $100 to win $122) on Tipico Sportsbook.

I believe New York cruises to its third straight win in this spot on Wednesday night at MSG.

My Best Bets

Place a bet on the Knicks as a massive favorite on the moneyline (-400), to cover the -9.5 spread (-105) and the over 226.5 total points at -112 on Tipico Sportsbook.
