Newcastle fans fume at Michael Owen's Premier League table prediction

Michael Owen has caused outrage amongst fans after revealing his Premier League table predictions for the 2023/24 season.

Manchester City go into the new campaign as the defending champions having won the top-flight title three times in a row.

And Owen has backed Pep Guardiola's side to win a sixth league championship from seven seasons.

Taking to , the 43-year-old reeled off his table in order from first to 20th, where he backed three of last season's top four to retain their Champions League place.

Owen is of the opinion that Mikel Arteta's Arsenal will once again come up just short in second spot, despite spending over £200million on Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber.

But Manchester United have dropped from third to fourth place, with Liverpool backed to finish ahead following the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

It means that Owen's former employers Newcastle have fallen out of the top four, with the Magpies only just clinching a European spot.

Eddie Howe's men have been predicted to finish seventh - behind Chelsea and Aston Villa - which would see the Toon play UEFA Conference League football.

And Newcastle fans were not happy on social media, as one user tweeted: "How bad did you wanna put Newcastle further down Michael?"

Another said: "Why would anyone pay any attention to Owen's predictions when he never seems to get anything right?"

A third added: "Anybody putting Villa above Newcastle cannot be taken seriously."

Meanwhile this fan simply stated: "Don't make me laugh Michael."

Tottenham fans have also been left riled up by Owen's predictions, as he placed Spurs in ninth behind Brighton and one place ahead of Brentford to complete the top ten.

One supporter posted: "Love how everyone is underrating Spurs season."

Another remarked: "On what basis does Spurs finish 9th?"

This account then said: "People predicting Villa and Brighton to finish above Spurs this season are going to be in for a rude awakening."

And this fan messaged: "You hate Spurs that’s my thoughts."

As for Owen's bottom three, he tipped Wolves to go down, along with newly-promoted Sheffield United and Luton.
