Opening weekend of the 2023-’24 English Premier League season rolls on with a Saturday matchup between Newcastle United and Aston Villa at St. James Park in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. The match is a clash between two teams looking for more after finishing among the top seven in the Premier League standings a year ago.

Newcastle United-Aston Villa will be carried live on NBC and NBC Universo with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m. ET. Live streams are available through NBC’s streaming app, Peacock, as well as through FuboTV, which offers a 7-day free trial, DirecTV Stream (5-day free trial) and Sling TV ($10 off the first month).

Newcastle United was a fourth-place finisher in the English Premier League behind one of the league’s most dominant defenses. That group tied for the league lead with just 35 goals allowed in compiling a 19-5-14 overall record and a plus-35 scoring margin. Callum Wilson was fifth in the EPL in scoring with 18 goals, while goalkeeper Nick Pope was tied for third with 14 clean sheets. Newcastle United went 3-0-2 in club friendlies this summer, including three straight wins to set up Saturday’s Premier League opener.

While Newcastle United won with defense, Aston Villa did it with grit, assembling an 18-13-7 record to finish seventh in the Premier League despite a modest plus-5 scoring differential. In a preview of their English Premier League opener, Aston Villa and Newcastle United played to a 3-3 draw in a club friendly in July. Aston Villa jumped out to an early 2-0 lead just 11 minutes into that match, but Newcastle United closed to a 3-3 draw on a late Wilson goal.

Newcastle United opens as a -140 favorite to beat Aston Villa, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, while Aston Villa is listed at +380 and a draw goes off at +250.
