The race for the top four heats up on Saturday as Newcastle and Manchester United collide on the heels of midweek Champions League drama.

The two teams can swap notes on frustrating, gut-wrenching European draws after the Magpies conceded a controversial late penalty away to PSG on Tuesday and the Red Devils blew a 3-1 lead against Galatasaray on Wednesday.

Despite slipping to the brink of a Champions League exit, Manchester United’s domestic form has been steady, and they head to St. James’ Park on a three-game win streak in the league. Newcastle are just a point behind the visitors and thumped Chelsea 4-1 last weekend.

Newcastle vs Man United best odds

EPL predictions for Newcastle vs Man United

With both teams surely desperate to get back on the pitch after their setbacks in Europe, this has the makings of an explosive contest between two sides looking to creep back into the top four.

Looking at recent form, I’m drawn to the goals props. Newcastle took a more measured approach against PSG, but they were at their prolific best in the victory over Chelsea last Saturday and Alexander Isak has scored in back-to-back games.

The Magpies have turned it on at home this year, with 18 goals in their seven league fixtures at St. James’ Park, and I expect more shakiness from this Manchester United backline after the meltdown on Wednesday. Erik ten Hag was quick to defend keeper Andre Onana, but the mistakes are piling up.

I’m more comfortable riding with the Red Devils at the other end of the field after six goals in their last two outings. Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes are scoring threats behind Marcus Rashford, and Newcastle are still missing key defenders Sven Botman and Dan Burn.

Newcastle have scored four goals three times in their last five home games in all competitions, and that’s the type of performance I’m expecting here. Even at a fairly hefty price, I’m taking the Over on 2.5 goals.

My best bet: Over 2.5 goals (-137 at TonyBet)

Over 2.5 goals

Alexander Isak anytime goal

Alejandro Garnacho Over 0.5 shots on target

I’m sticking with the formbook here and picking two players who have delivered over the past week. I like the odds for Isak to continue his hot streak against a banged-up Red Devils defense, and he should get good supply from Newcastle’s willing midfield runners.

Garnacho is another man riding high at the moment. The stunning bicycle kick against Everton was a goal-of-the-season contender, and he took his chance well against Galatasaray in midweek. He’s always on the attack and I see him testing Nick Pope at some stage on Saturday.

Newcastle vs Man United side and Over/Under analysis

In a season that’s been bumpy at times, there’s been plenty of home cooking for Newcastle. With six wins from seven home games in the Premier League, it’s no surprise to see the Magpies pegged as favorites here.

But don’t overlook the hosts’ injury woes. Eddie Howe’s men were heroic in midweek, but the starting line-up went the distance in Paris and fatigue could be a factor in this quick turnaround. The odds for a draw are worth a look at around +280.

After grinding out 1-0 wins over Fulham and Luton, Manchester United looked sharper against Everton last weekend. But defensive woes and goalkeeping howlers reared their heads again in Turkey on Wednesday.

It’s tough to trust ten Hag’s men on the road this weekend, despite taking 12 points from six league away games this year. They’ve lost the past two matchups against Newcastle, including a 3-0 setback in the Carabao Cup at the start of November.

I’ve already made the case for goals in what should be a tense, end-to-end battle. Though we haven’t seen BTTS – Yes cash in for any of the past four meetings, both teams were clinical last weekend.

The biggest question for the moneyline and Over/Under markets might center around potential squad rotation. But, while youngsters like Newcastle’s Lewis Miley and Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo may see bigger roles, both teams have too many injuries to make major changes.
