Next Bristol Rovers Manager Odds: Taylor Leads Betting Odds

Bristol Rovers are on the lookout for a new manager and the best betting sites reckon there are several contenders for the role.

The Pirates parted ways with Joey Barton last month after a run of one win in five League One games left them on the cusp of the relegation zone.

Barton had led Rovers to promotion from League Two in 2021/22 and then kept them in the third tier last season, but the club reasoned that the time had come for a change.

Andy Mangan was installed as his replacement on an interim basis. The former striker has done a good job so far, taking seven points from a possible nine to lift Rovers into mid-table.

He also oversaw a 7-2 victory over Whitby Town in the first round of the FA Cup.

Rovers are now just four points adrift of the play-off places and they have a game in hand on many of the teams around them in the table.

This could be an attractive job, then, and while Mangan has done some promising work so far, the Rovers board will want to install a permanent replacement for Barton as soon as possible.

Who might that be? Let’s take a look at the latest betting odds before analysing the runners and riders in this race.

Taylor Heads Up Betting List With Talks Rumoured

Football betting sites have Matt Taylor as the odds-on favourite at 1/2 to take over at the Memorial Stadium.

The former Exeter City and Rotherham United head coach is reportedly set to hold talks with the Bristol Rovers hierarchy in the coming days, and if those discussions go well then Taylor may well be appointed soon.

It is not a given, though. Taylor was only in charge of Rotherham for a year before being sacked.

He did some excellent work at Exeter before that, but Rovers will want to consider all their options first.

Monk Linked With First Managerial Role Since 2020

Garry Monk was once tipped to be one of English football’s brightest homegrown coaches, but things have not gone to plan for the former defender.

He impressed during his first managerial role with Swansea City, but subsequent spells with Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday were a mixed bag at best.

Still, all of those clubs are bigger than Bristol Rovers and Monk, who is priced at 5/1 with Parimatch, would bring plenty of experience to the Memorial Stadium.

However, he has now been out of work for more than three years and it is not clear if Monk is even looking for a way back to the dugout.

Robinson Waiting For First Post-Oxford Gig

He briefly served as an assistant to Sam Allardyce at Leeds towards the end of last term and is now waiting for his next opportunity.

Could that be at Bristol Rovers? Robinson would be a strong candidate.

He has been in management since 2010 but is still only 43 years old, while League One is a division he knows well. For those who fancy Robinson, take up odds of 5/1.

Lennon Could Return To English Football

Neil Lennon has managed four clubs in his career to date, with two spells at Celtic the most memorable.

The former midfielder won five Scottish Premiership titles and five domestic cups at Parkhead, but managing in League One is a different beast.

Lennon’s only previous job in England did not go particularly well, as he struggled to make a positive impression at Bolton Wanderers.

The Northern Irishman is available at 8/1 with BetVictor to be the next Bristol Rovers boss.

Full-Time Role For Mangan Cannot Be Ruled Out

Bristol Rovers are not in action this weekend after their scheduled clash with Fleetwood Town was postponed, so Mangan might have already taken charge of his final match as interim manager.

There is still a chance that the 37-year-old lands the job on a full-time basis.

The worry is that Mangan has no prior managerial experience, but Rovers could entrust him with the position if, say, a move for Taylor fell through. Mangan is priced at 14/1.

Bowyer And Whelan Among The Outsiders

There are numerous outsiders for the role, all priced at 33/1 with betting apps

There is not enough space to list them all here, but Lee Bowyer and Glenn Whelan are two names worthy of consideration.

After spells with Charlton Athletic and Birmingham City, Bowyer’s next move was unconventional: in September he was unveiled as the new head coach of the Montserrat national team.

He is unlikely to return to English domestic football so soon after taking that job.

Whelan was a part of Barton’s coaching team at Rovers and he was kept on after his former boss was sacked. However, it would be a surprise if he was given the nod ahead of Mangan.
