Next England manager odds: who is favourite to succeed Southgate?

England were knocked out in the quarter-final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup to France. England scored a record breaking 13 goals this year. They also kept three clean sheets from their five World Cups games. Southgate is currently under contract as Three Lions boss until 2024. He admitted before the tournament that he will be judged by what happens at Qatar.

Some sections of the England fan base want a change ahead of Euro 2024. Bookmakers have revealed who they think is favourite to succeed Gareth Southgate.

Mauricio Pochettino is the bookmakers' favourite to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager. Pochetino has been out of work since leaving PSG in the summer. The Argentine won the league during his first full season at PSg in 2021/22. He was sacked from Tottenham after a poor start to the Premier League season in 2019/2020.

Thomas Tuchel was sacked from Chelsea earlier this season. Tuchell won the Champions League with Chelsea within six months of his arrival. He also won a DFB-Pokal with Borussia Dortmund in 2016/17 and the French league title with PSG in 2018. The German manager was dismissed mid-way through the 2020/2021 season after PSg failed to keep up with Lille in the league.

Brendan Rodgers is the current Leicester City manager. He won promotion to the Premier League with Swansea in 2011. Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool at the end of the 2013/14 season. The Northern Irishman won every domestic trophy at Celtic. His spell at Leicester has been successful. He finished 5th in his first two seasons and secured European football. Brendan Rodgers has also guided Leicester to their first FA Cup victory in 2021.

Eddie Howe is the most likely Englishman to succeed Gareth Southgate as England manager. Howe managed Bournemouth to promotion to the Premier League in 2009. He also managed Burnley from 2011 to 2012. In 2013, he returned to management as Newcastle United manager under new Saudi ownership. Newcastle are currently third in the table. Newcastle have lost just one of their opening fifteen games this season. They have three times as many points as they did this time last season, when they were bottom of the league. The club is currently playing in Premier league for the first time since the 1990s.

Graham Potter has been appointed Chelsea manager. He is a former manager of Ostersunds FK and Brighton & Hove Albion. Potter is the 12th favourite to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager at Chelsea. He won the Swedish Cup in 2017 and the Europa League group stage in his first five years in Sweden. His second season in England saw him take over at newly relegated Championship club Swansea City.

Steve Cooper has been linked with the England manager's job. Nottingham Forest boss guided his team to the Premier League last season. Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney have also been mentioned.
