Next Leeds Manager Odds: Michael Skubala New Favourite For Leeds Job

Leeds United’s long managerial search continues, and have changed their odds quite significantly since Jesse Marsch was sacked.

Caretaker manager Michael Skubala has overseen a 2-2 draw with Manchester United plus and a late 2-0 defeat to the same opponent last Sunday.

Leeds picked up what could prove to be a valuable point at Old Trafford, but they couldn't repeat or better the trick four days later at Elland Road.

The identity of Marsch’s permanent successor remains unclear, but Skubala has managed his way into the frame having got a reaction out of the players since Marsch departed.

The Whites face a massive game away to relegation rivals Everton on Saturday and their hierarchy will keen to appoint someone before that crunch contest.

You can find the latest betting odds below, followed by our take on the situation.

Calls For Skubala Grow After Man Utd Games

You don't get a greater baptism of fire as a Leeds United caretaker boss than back-to-back games with their greatest rivals Manchester United.

While Skubala's two games in charge have only gained a single point in the Premier League standings, Leeds fans have been genuinely impressed by the style of play he has brought to the table.

As contender after contender for the post has fallen by the wayside in Leeds United's hunt for a new manager, Skubala chances of being given the role on a more permanent basis have grown.

The former head coach of England's national futsal team only joined Leeds as their U21 boss in July, but he is now odds-on favourite with 888sport to be the next permanent manager in the Elland Road dugout.

Nuno Emerges As Pragmatic Contender For Role

Nuno Espirito Santo was not included on the initial list of candidates to replace Marsch, but he has crept up the betting in recent days and is now available at 7/1 with .

The Portuguese manager would no doubt relish a return to the Premier League despite the fact he is currently in work with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad.

Nuno’s time with Tottenham Hotspur was disappointing, but he previously did an excellent job at the helm of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, his pragmatic style of play is perhaps not the best fit for a team whose main shortcoming this season has been a lack of creativity.

Nuno would certainly get Leeds organised without the ball, but a squad built by Marsch and Marcelo Bielsa is not ideally suited to the Portuguese’s approach.

But after Alfred Schreuder was effectively vetoed by the club's fans, they may be more open to the Wolves boss on a deal until the summer.

Iraola’s Odds Drift Amid Rejection Reports

Andoni Iraola was the strong favourite to take over at Elland Road at one stage last week, but his odds have recently drifted from 6/5 to 12/1 with BetVictor

That is off the back of reports in Spain which claim that Iraola rejected the chance to join Leeds, choosing instead to remain with Rayo Vallecano, who are currently in with a shout of qualifying for Europe next season.

The 40-year-old will no doubt move on to bigger and better things at some point, but it is understandable that he wishes to complete the job at the Estadio de Vallecas first.

Iraola joins Carlos Corberan in ruling himself out of the job, with the latter signing a new contract with West Bromwich Albion.

Arne Slot was once the odds-on favourite to be appointed by Leeds, with Coral offering 4/5 on him to take charge at one stage.

Slot led Feyenoord to the Europa Conference League final last term, and his side are now top of the Eredivisie ahead of Ajax and PSV.

Last Thursday, Leeds reportedly made an approach for the Feyenoord manager, who was supposedly their preferred choice to replace Marsch.

However, reports in the Netherlands have since claimed Slot intends to stay with the Dutch giants in a bitter blow for the Elland Road hierarchy and he is now out to odds of 14/1.

As such, Leeds may struggle to lure the Dutchman away from De Kuip, where he has a genuine chance of winning silverware this season.

The Whites may not give up on their man just yet and will hope that the pull of the Premier League proves too strong to resist, but this will be a difficult deal to strike in the middle of the campaign.

Meanwhile, ex-Aston Villa and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has become a live candidate for the job.

He would more than likely bring club legend Gary McAllister with him as an assistant if he were to appointed Leeds manager, and he is available at just 4/1 with BoyleSports to claim the role.

Gallardo Has Not Been Approached By Leeds Yet

Marcelo Gallardo is unlikely to be the next Leeds boss, as demonstrated by odds of 20/1

The Argentinian is on the lookout for a new job after leaving River Plate at the end of last year

He did a magnificent job at the Estadio Monumental, winning two Copas Libertadores as well as several domestic trophies.

Gallardo will no doubt move to Europe at some point, but Ligue 1 and La Liga are more probable destinations given he speaks French and Spanish.

Meanwhile, his lack of experience in Europe arguably makes Gallardo a riskier appointment than any of the other names on this list, although there can be no questioning the success he enjoyed during his lengthy tenure at River.

Postecoglou And Hasenhuttl Now Rank Outsiders

At 33/1 with William Hill, Ange Postecoglou will probably not be rocking up at Elland Road any time soon.

The Australian looks set to win another Scottish Premiership title with Celtic this season, and he would probably like another crack at the Champions League next term after a group-stage exit before Christmas.

Ralph Hasenhuttl, currently priced at 33/1 with , is not a contender at present.

After four years in charge of Southampton, the Austrian would likely prefer a return to the Bundesliga, where he previously managed Ingolstadt and RB Leipzig.

Hasenhuttl has been linked with Hoffenheim in recent days, although there is also a possibility that he will take an extended break from the game.
