NHL best bets today (Capitals will dominate Sharks)

Just because the Super Bowl is tonight, that doesn’t mean I’m going to take the day off from betting on the NHL.

It’s been a rough February, but I went 3-2 with my Saturday picks, which you could have found on my Twitter, so let’s try to keep that momentum going today.

There’s no time to mess around. Let’s dive into my plays for Sunday afternoon NHL action.

NHL best bets record season-to-date

  • 173-143-4 (+16.12 units)

NHL best bets today

  • Oilers -1.5 (-120) vs. Canadiens
  • Kraken/Flyers UNDER 6.5 (-120)
  • Capitals -185 vs. Sharks

Oilers -1.5 (-120) vs. Canadiens

The Oilers continue to be the hottest team in the NHL, going 8-0-2 in their last 10 games. Now, they get to face one of the worst teams in the NHL in the Montreal Canadiens.

During that span, Edmonton has an average goal differential of +2.27. The Oilers lead the NHL in almost every single offensive category, and they’re also playing some of the best defensive hockey they’ve played over the past few years, sporting an expected goals against per game of 2.61.

Meanwhile, the Canadiens stink in every aspect of the game. To make matters worse for them, Jake Allen is starting in net for them this afternoon. He has an .891 save percentage this season and an .870 save percentage in four starts in January.

I’ll back Edmonton to win and cover the puck line in this one.

Kraken/Flyers UNDER 6.5 (-120)

I bet on the UNDER in the Kraken’s game against the Rangers on Friday, but Martin Jones got the start for them and the bet died a quick death. Now, thankfully, it looks like Philip Grubauer is back in net for them tonight.

The Flyers have struggled offensively as of late. They rank 30th in shooting percentage over their last 10 games, scoring on only 7.35% of their shots on net. Meanwhile, they’ve been strong defensively, allowing only 2.37 goals per game over the same stretch.

With the total set at 6.5, I love the UNDER in this one.

Capitals -185 vs. Sharks

You can bet on the puck line or the 3-way moneyline in this spot, but considering I’m already on the Oilers puck line today, I’m just going to eat the juice on the moneyline in this one.

Surprisingly, the Capitals have been the best defensive team in the NHL over their last 10, ranking first in expected goals against per game. Now, they face a Sharks team that has been terrible in their own end, with an expected goals against of 3.51 and an actual goals against of 4.04 over the same stretch.

The Sharks are also at the end of a three-game road trip, so now is the time to bet against them.

Odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
