NHL parlay picks Dec. 11: Bet on Avalanche to bounce back against Flames

Monday is a bit light on NHL action, with only four games on the schedule, but that's still plenty for a three-leg parlay.

The pregame narrative: The Colorado Avalanche have lost back-to-back games but see an opportune rebound spot against the Calgary Flames. The New York Islanders are a nice pick to cover the puck line at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs, while the Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings clash as two of the top goal-scoring teams in the league.

NHL parlay picks

Parlay: Avalanche moneyline + Islanders +1.5 + Red Wings/Stars over 5.5 goals (+254)

Avalanche moneyline (-180): Colorado has been struggling of late, winning one of its last five games. However, tonight it takes on Calgary, a bottom-10 offensive and defensive team.

Despite losing the last two at home, the Avs hold a respectable 9-4 record in their own barn. The Flames head out to Denver for the night before heading off to Vegas for a back-to-back. They are 5-7-2 on the road and 1-5 against Colorado in their last six meetings.

Although there is a strong situational advantage for the home side, it’s also the better hockey team, ranking in the top half of the league for goals scored (3.44/game) and against (3.00/game).

In comparison, the Flames are 23rd in scoring (2.89/game) and tied for 22nd in goals allowed (3.33/game).

Other parlay picks

Islanders +1.5 (-240): The Leafs won their last outing in a way that has proven difficult for them so far — outscoring its opponent in regulation.

In saying that, Toronto has only covered a -1.5 puck line in five of 24 games this season.

With Joseph Woll on the injured reserved list, the Islanders have the goaltending advantage in this one.

Ilya Samsonov has been inconsistent in a Leafs uniform. He is coming off of a shutout win over the Nashville Predators but his .886 save percentage doesn’t suggest that he's turned a corner on his poor start to the season.

In 14 home games, New York has only lost three times in regulation.

Red Wings/Stars over 5.5 goals (-167): Lastly, offence will be on display when the Red Wings take on the Stars.

Detroit has gone over this line in its last five in a row and on average scores the second-most goals per game (3.73).

Dallas has topped the 5.5 total in four of its last five and the offence also finds itself in the top 10 in scoring (3.35/game).

The kicker in this one is the respective shooting percentages for each side. The Red Wings (12.4 SH%) and Stars (11.2 SH%), rank second and fourth, respectively, in the NHL.

When you add in the fact that the two teams combine to average a total of 62.2 shots per game, it’s easy to see why there's a high-scoring potential.
