NHL parlay picks Jan. 21: Take the over between Lightning and Red Wings in +324 ticket

Three picks from an exciting Sunday slate find their way onto the parlay.

The pregame narrative: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions aren't the only teams in their respective cities squaring off today. The Lightning also pay the Red Wings a visit in the Motor City and the over is an appealing wager. That's also the case for the clash between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Seattle Kraken, while the under is my play for the contest between the New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks.

NHL parlay picks

Parlay: Lightning vs. Red Wings over 5.5 goals + Maple Leafs vs. Kraken over 5.5 goals + Rangers vs. Ducks under 6.5 goals (+324)

Lightning vs. Red Wings over 5.5 goals (-190): These offences shouldn't have any issues getting to work.

Both units have been stellar this season. Detroit ranks fourth in goals per game (3.51) and has scored three-plus goals in nine of the team's last 11 games.

Tampa Bay's offence has been good in equal measure. The Lightning place 10th in goals per game (3.37) and have scored three-plus goals in eight of their last 10 outings.

The over on this total has hit in seven of Tampa Bay's last 10 games and eight of Detroit's last 11.

Other parlay picks

Maple Leafs vs. Kraken over 5.5 goals (-148): Martin Jones started for Toronto last night, which means we're likely going to see Ilya Samsonov in net.

His presence between the pipes is a great development for overs. He's given up three-plus goals in each of his last five starts while the over on this total has cashed in all of those outings.

As a result of the Maple Leafs' goaltending woes and steady offensive output, Toronto has seen six-plus total goals in seven consecutive games.

Seattle's offence isn't elite by any stretch but the team has scored three-plus markers in five of its last eight games. The Kraken will benefit from battling a struggling netminder.

Rangers vs. Ducks under 6.5 goals (-155): Thirdly, I'm fading offence in this contest.

Betting against goals is usually a sound strategy with Anaheim. The Ducks are a putrid 29th in goals per game (2.51) and are still without star centre Trevor Zegras.

Scoring against New York isn't an easy task on most nights. The tandem of Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick has provided largely solid netminding this season.

New York's offence, meanwhile, is more league-average than elite, placing 13th in goals per game (3.20). The Rangers find themselves in an offensive rut ahead of this one, scoring two goals or fewer in five of their last six.
