NHL parlay picks March 1: Back the Stars and Caps

The NHL schedule is a touch sparse on Wednesday with just six games on the slate, but there’s still enough meat on the bone to provide a plethora of parlay possibilities.

The pregame narrative: The Dallas Stars are locking horns with one of the NHL’s worst road teams, the Washington Capitals are taking on an atrocious defence and William Karlsson has found himself in a funk.

NHL parlay picks

Parlay: Stars moneyline + Capitals over 2.5 goals in regulation + Karlsson not to score a point (+207)

Stars moneyline (-400): We’re going to start this parlay off with a leg that’s about as safe as they come. The Central Division-leading Stars are hosting an Arizona Coyotes team that has won just 20.6% of its road dates, with a minus-40 goal differential in 30 games away from Mullett Arena.

We’ve already seen this matchup once this year and the Stars dominated the Coyotes 4-0 in Dallas.

The mismatch between these teams has only grown since then as Dallas deepened its offence with the addition of Evgenii Dadonov while the Coyotes are holding out top defenceman Jakob Chychrun to help facilitate a trade.

To make matters worse for Arizona, they’re playing on the second leg of a back-to-back. A bet on Dallas’ puck line would be justifiable here, but we’ll keep it conservative to kick off this parlay.

Other parlay picks

Capitals over 2.5 goals - regulation time (-245): While the Capitals are taking a step backwards — as evidenced by their willingness to ship off veteran defenceman Dmitry Orlov — it makes sense to support them on this modified goal line.

That’s because the team they’re playing, the Anaheim Ducks, is absolutely putrid at keeping the puck out of the net. No team concedes goals than the Ducks (4.08/game), who have allowed their opponents to clear this line 75.4% of the time.

Washington scored just five goals in three games while Alex Ovechkin was in Russia grieving the death of his father. Since the superstar returned the Capitals have managed 12 tallies in three games and seem to have their offence back in gear.

Karlsson not to score a point (-136): Although Karlsson is in the midst of his best season since 2019-20, he’s gone ice-cold lately.

The former 40-goal man has been held point-less in seven of his last 10 games and he’s seen his ice time per game (16:18) drop well below what he averaged in his first 50 appearances of the season.

Karlsson is faced with an intimidating defence on Wednesday as the Carolina Hurricanes allow the second-fewest goals per game in the NHL (2.57) and have conceded the second-fewest points to centres (126) per EDraft.com.
