NHL prop picks Nov. 6: Bet on Lightning's Hedman against Maple Leafs

Monday's four-game NHL slate may lack in quantity but it's not short on quality.

The pregame narrative: The Toronto Maple Leafs host the Tampa Bay Lightning, and with the latter's power play clicking, Victor Hedman is a nice choice to register a point. The Boston Bruins visit the Dallas Stars in another marquee matchup and Jake DeBrusk is a player worth fading in a game that'll likely be short on goals.

NHL prop picks

Best Bet: Hedman to score 1+ points (-118)

Hedman is enjoying a solid offensive season after having a down year in 2022-23.

The Tampa Bay blueliner only had 49 points in 76 games last season, but he has 11 points in 11 contests to open this campaign. He's tied for third among all defensemen in points, equalling the outputs of players like Adam Fox and Cale Makar.

Eight of his 11 points have come at even strength while his other three have come on the power play, and that's where we see him getting his best opportunities to cash this wager. Hedman quarterbacks the top unit of the Lightning power play, which has the third-highest success rate (30.6%) in the NHL this season.

Toronto's penalty kill presents an exploitable matchup as it's tied for the ninth-worst mark (75.0%) in the league. When the Maple Leafs played the Bolts earlier this year, they ceded a pair of power-play markers and Hedman was able to notch a point on the man advantage.

The game total for this contest is 6.5 with the juice shading toward the over. There should be plenty of offence and Hedman seems like a good pick to get in on it.

Key stat: Hedman scored two points in his most recent outing and has six points in his last six games.

Quick pick

DeBrusk to not score a point (-124): DeBrusk is beginning to heat up with a point in three consecutive games, but this seems like the right night to fade him.

Dallas is capable of stymying Boston's offence. The Stars have the fourth-best save percentage (.926) in the NHL and rank fifth in goals against (2.50).

Additionally, DeBrusk doesn't skate on the Bruins' first power play, which severely dampens his outlook of reaching the score sheet on most nights.
