NRL Tips Finals Week 2: Betting preview, odds and predictions

The NRL finals are ramping up as we enter Week 2.

The Storm will welcome the Roosters to Melbourne on Friday to begin the round, with both teams dealing with a number of key injuries.

Then, on Saturday, the Warriors will take on the Knights at what is set to be a raucous Mount Smart Stadium.

Below are The Sporting News’ betting predictions and best bets for Finals Week 2.

Melbourne Storm vs. Sydney Roosters prediction, tip, best bet

AAMI Park in Melbourne will play host to the first semi-final between the Storm and Roosters.

Craig Bellamy's side have the edge over the Roosters this season, winning both of their matchups by double-digit margins.

However, some serious improvement will be needed following their dire showing against the Broncos.

Injuries to Xavier Coates, Ryan Papenhuyzen and Young Tonumaipea are notable, but recalls for Reimis Smith and Justin Olam still leaves their backline in solid shape.

The Roosters' casualty ward is even worse, with Billy Smith, Joseph Suaalii, Joseph Manu and Daniel Tupou all ruled out in a serious test of their depth.

Their forward pack is relatively strong though, which should give them a fighting chance against Melbourne.

However, the Storm's overall quality is likely enough to claim a narrow win.

BEST BET: Melbourne Storm 1-12 ($3.20)

New Zealand Warriors vs. Newcastle Knights prediction, tip, best bet

Not many would have predicted the Warriors and Knights to face off in the finals, but here we are.

New Zealand were outlcassed last week against the Panthers, but now return to Auckland to play in front of a packed-out Mount Smart Stadium.

The Warriors emerged victorious when they faced Newcastle at home earlier this season, in a fixture that has a habit of being high-scoring — an average of 45 points have come from the matches the two sides have played in 2023.

While the Knights continued their unbeaten run against the Raiders, there were some concerning aspects of their performance, notably their slow start and failure to hold onto a lead.

If they're on their A-game, they can definitely win. However, if they give the Warriors a sniff, it's hard to see them escaping a second week in a row.

BEST BET: New Zealand Warriors to win + over 41.5 points ($2.70)
