Last year, Nashville SC went 13-11-10 in the regular season. Winning 50 points was enough for them to book the ticket to the MLS Playoffs, where they lost 1-0 to Los Angeles Galaxy in the first round. No one likes losing, but they shouldn’t feel too bad about losing that game. They played decent soccer and were unlucky not to equalize.

Actually, these guys have been playing great for years, especially in big games. Finding the net against Nashville SC has been a challenge even for the most powerful offenses in the MLS. In fact, their defense was the third-best in the West in 2022 with just 41 goals conceded in 34 games of the regular season.

So, the big question is can NY Red Bulls outsmart Nashville’s defense? Judging by their performance in the opening round of the 2023 MLS, the answer is no. They had 14 goal attempts against Orlando City in Round 1 but failed to make them count.

The offense has been their Achilles’ heel for ages now. Last season, they scored 50 goals in the regular season, but more than half of those were scored by midfielders and defenders. In fact, their highest-scoring forward in 2022 was Patryk Klimala who’s moved to Israel since. The good news for NY Red Bulls is that Scottish winger Lewis Morgan – their overall top scorer last season – is still on the roster.

We think Nashville SC is a team with better players than NY Red Bulls. The visitors are coming to Red Bull Arena to get all three points and we think they will pull it off. They probably won’t score too many goals, but on the other hand, neither should the hosts. In fact, we think NY Red Bulls might not score even once on Saturday.
