Oakland Athletics vs Seattle Mariners Prediction 9-18-23 MLB Picks

The Seattle Mariners and the Oakland A’s meet in game one of a three-game AL West division series in MLB action from Oakland Coliseum on Monday night.

Mariners Swept By Dodgers

The Seattle Mariners took one on the chin over the weekend after being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers thanks to a 6-1 loss in Sunday’s series finale. The loss dropped the Mariners to 81-68 on the year, sitting 2.5 games back in the AL West race and 1 game out in the AL Wild Card chase. Julio Rodriguez leads the Mariners with 174 hits and 99 RBIs along with 30 home runs while Cal Raleigh has 28 home runs this season. Teoscar Hernandez has 25 home runs along with 89 RBIs for the Mariners this season and Eugenio Suarez has 21 homers of his own along with 88 RBIs as well. J.P. Crawford also has a .264 batting average and a .378 OBP this season. Bryan Woo will start here and is 3-4 with a 4.16 ERA and 76 strikeouts this season.

A's Swept By Padres

The Oakland A’s had a tough weekend series themselves, being swept by the Padres after a 10-1 beatdown loss in Sunday’s series finale. The loss dropped the A’s to 46-103 on the year, currently owning the worst record in baseball. Brent Rooker leads the A’s with 26 home runs and 60 RBIs this season, while Esteury Ruiz has 104 hits, a .249 batting average and a team-best 59 stolen bases. Ryan Noda, Zack Gelof, JJ Bleday, Seth Brown and Shea Langeliers also have double-digit home runs for the A’s this season, while Ruiz also leads the A’s in doubles with 23. JP Sears will start for the A’s and is 5-11 with a 4.45 ERA and 144 strikeouts this season.

Chris’ Pick

I’m rolling with the A’s here. Do I love Oakland right now? No, this is the worst team in baseball going against a desperate Mariners team. But the Mariners did not look good at all against the Dodgers and it just kind of summarizes how the Mariners have been playing in the last couple of weeks, looking like a completely different team than the one that was slicing through Major League Baseball in July and August. JP Sears is a solid arm when called upon, it’s just a matter of his offense backing him up and I just don’t feel Bryan Woo should be at this price when the Mariners aren’t playing well behind him. I’ll take a stab on the A’s here.
