Seattle Mariners vs. San Diego Padres Prediction 8-9-23 MLB Picks

The San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners meet in the finale of their two-game MLB interleague set from T-Mobile Park on Wednesday. The Mariners eked out a win in game one, can the Padres salvage a split? Or will Seattle pull off the sweep? Let’s dive in and find out.

Padres Underdeliver Once Again

The San Diego Padres continue to be one of the more frustrating teams to back in all of baseball, as this team has a boatload of talent but continue to waste it with inconsistent play and a 2-0 loss to the Mariners on Tuesday is more proof of that, as the loss spiraled the Padres to 55-59 on the year, 12 games back of the Dodgers for the lead in the NL West and 4 games back of the final Wild Card spot in the National League. Juan Soto leads the Padres with 24 home runs and 72 RBIs with a .416 OBP as well while Xander Bogaerts has a team-high 109 hits. Trent Grisham leads San Diego with 26 doubles and Manny Machado has 21 home runs and 66 RBIs as well this season. Yu Darvish will get the start for the Padres in this one and is 8-7 with a 4.41 ERA and 121 strikeouts this season.

Mariners Quietly On A Roll

The Seattle Mariners continue to quietly play some of the best baseball in the league as of late, winning 6 straight and 8 of 9 after their win over the Padres on Tuesday. The win brought the Mariners to 61-52 on the year, 2 games back of Toronto for the final AL Wild Card spot and 6.5 games back in the AL West division race. Julio Rodriguez leads the Mariners with 119 hits and 18 home runs while Teoscar Hernandez has 17 home runs along with 60 RBIs for the Mariners this season. Eugenio Suarez has 16 homers of his own along with a team-high 72 RBIs as well. J.P. Crawford also has a .268 batting average and a .382 OBP this season. The Mariners did not have a starting pitcher announced at the time that this article was posted.

Chris’ Pick

I’m looking at the Mariners here. I just don’t have any faith in the Padres and even with Yu Darvish pitching, Darvish has been less effective on the road for much of the season. The Mariners are heads and shoulders playing the better baseball right now, and I just don’t want to step in front of Seattle, especially when San Diego is the alternative. Give me the Mariners.
