Oilers vs. Maple Leafs same-game parlay picks: Take Edmonton and the over

Canada’s best NHL teams are going head-to-head on Saturday night.

The pregame narrative: The Edmonton Oilers are looking like a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, and we’re happily backing them as an underdog against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Both teams are scoring plenty, making the over our lean. Lastly, we’re picking the surging Auston Matthews to notch a point.

NHL odds as of 10:08 a.m. on 03/11/2023.

Oilers vs. Maple Leafs same-game parlay

Parlay: Oilers +1.5 + Over 5.5 goals + Matthews to score 1+ point (+190)

Oilers +1.5 (-230): Edmonton’s an underdog we can get behind on Saturday night.

The Oilers enter this contest on a heater, having won four of their last five games. This stretch also includes a home victory over the Maple Leafs.

Being on the road doesn’t concern us, it actually gives us even more confidence in Edmonton. The team is an impressive 20-10-3 away from Rogers Place this season which is noticeably better than the squad’s 16-12-5 home record.

This is also shaping up as a trap spot for Toronto. The Maple Leafs just wrapped up a five-game road trip and have had three days off between games. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the Buds start the game a little sluggish.

The Oilers have covered this number in 11 of their last 12 games.

Other parlay picks

Over 5.5 goals (-245): Toronto’s starting Matt Murray on Saturday and his home struggles are why we’re expecting plenty of goals.

The two-time Stanley Cup champion owns a brutal .888 save percentage at Scotiabank Arena this year with a 3.14 goals-against average.

His recent results, whether it be at home or on the road, also aren’t very encouraging. He’s allowed 12 goals in his last three appearances, posting a .818 save percentage during this run.

Edmonton’s not the type of team anybody should expect a goaltender to get right against, either. Thanks to a lethal offensive attack featuring Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the Oilers are averaging an NHL-best 3.85 goals per game.

Edmonton’s also the league’s best over team, cashing the wager in 66.7% of games.

Matthews to score 1+ point (-286): Matthews is starting to find his offensive game, notching a point in four of his last five games. He has five points during this stretch, including three goals which is an encouraging sign for the sniper.

Some key statistics also offer a reason for optimism, as Matthews leads Toronto in shots (16) and scoring chances (17) in the team’s last three outings per Natural Stat Trick.

Matthews has 33 points in 28 home games this season.
