Old Newton Cup Festival Haydock racing tips

Haydock hosts the Old Newton Cup Festival across the weekend which features Group races and the competitive handicap showpiece.

talkSPORT BET have all the horse racing betting odds available for the meeting at Haydock with my tips all ready to add to your bets.

the bet365 Handicap is the first Class 2 of the meeting with 14 runners still entered in with this race and the next two at Haydock featuring on ITV Racing's coverage of the Coral-Eclipse.

There's also the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks for fillies and mares and although it's not the feature of the day it's certainly shaping up to be the highlight.

The Old Newton Cup Festival spans across Thursday, Friday and Saturday this month.

There's also scope for backing many of these races each-way to help gain profit across the day, with some of the favourites set to be taken on by worthy opponents.

Haydock racing tips

2.40: Sea Silk Road 9/4

Mimikyu is narrowly ahead of Sea Silk Road in the ratings and although on paper should be winning this but it seems that 1m4f isn't the optimal trip in comparison to the William Haggas-trained horse Sea Silk Road.

She will have Daniel Tudhope on board for the first time as her usual jockey Tom Marquand is at Sandown, but that's not a draw back by any means as the Tudhope has an 18% strike-rate along with Haggas's 28% win-rate as of Friday morning.

Sea Silk Road won't mind any rain that comes and there could be a shower or two this weekend for most of the races.

She won on soft ground at Goodwood on her third run and her first run over 1m4f was a close second behind Magical Lagoon in the Ribblesdale in Royal Ascot 2022.

3.15: Sheer Rocks 8/1 & Euchen Glen 20/1

17 runners are set to take to the field for the bet365 Handicap contested over 1m6f in the first Class 2 of the day.

This race is for three-year-olds and it's incredibly open with the majority of the field lightly raced and still yet to reach their peak ability or rating, so it's possible there's a shock amongst these.

One of which could be Euchen Glen who was confirmed to have had this as his aim for the season and did well to come fourth at Ayr in late June over 1m5f.

That form is definitely better than his first two runs over further (2m2f and 1m6f).

He's on a dangerous mark now and at ten-years-old can still run well, on a course he's won at before too.

Sheer Rocks is a great price too considering he's gone 2-2 since being gelded and taking a nice winter break, that's clearly helped develop this horse into an impressive four-year-old.

Beating Caius Chorister with ease at Epsom last time out and also won't mind the softer ground based on his win at Ascot ahead of Ravens Ark in May.

4.25: Ramazan 4/1

Was a respectable ninth at Ascot in the Britannia Stakes last month but that was his first time over 1m, back down in trip for this one though and should appreciate a smaller field on just his tenth race.

He was gelded in November and there should be even more progression to come from this three-year-old who's given enough weight to make him very competitive.

His third place on soft ground at the Curragh's Goffs Million suggests he could see this out comfortably if improving further, as he placed just behind the 103-rated Hellsing off the same weight.
