The kickoff to Oregon’s 2022 campaign was the stuff of nightmares. A 49-3 Week 1 loss to the eventual national champion Georgia Bulldogs left Ducks fans unsure of what to expect over the next 11 games.

But brighter days were ahead in Eugene, thanks to an eight-game win streak following the bashing by Georgia. The highlight wins came against No. 12 BYU and No. 9 UCLA.

Then, No. 24 Washington and No. 21 Oregon State handed the Ducks a pair of defeats, sinking all hopes for a College Football Playoff berth.

This year’s slate brings far easier non-conference opponents, meaning Oregon’s 2023 CFP dreams will, once again, be determined by its performance against Pac-12 foes. The toughest matchups come on the road against Washington and Utah, along with a showdown vs. USC at Autzen Stadium.

Luckily, none of those highly-anticipated matchups come in back-to-back weeks, and Oregon’s only consecutive road games begin against a putrid Stanford squad. This leaves a clear path for Bo Nix and Co. to storm through their regular season schedule before a shot at the Pac-12 Championship, which could then lead to a College Football Playoff berth.

Here are three of our favorite bets to make on the Ducks ahead of the 2023 season.

Oregon’s schedule is conducive to the school making its first CFP appearance since the postseason format’s institution in 2015.

Last season, we learned the Ducks will go as far as Nix can take them. Bo was healthy for the opening 10 games of the season, and Oregon boasted a 9-1 record, but a Week 11 leg injury hampered the QBs mobility, resulting in two losses to close the year.

Even with a hobbled Nix, Oregon lost those two Pac-12 matchups by a combined seven points. If the 23-year-old maintains his health in 2023, the sky is the limit for Oregon.

Plus, the Ducks return star RBs Bucky Irving and Noah Whittington, along with WRs Troy Franklin and Kris Hutson. Running things back with the same players that brought success to Eugene in 2022 will be invaluable for Oregon.

The Ducks open the year with non-conference games against Portland State, Texas Tech, and Hawaii. Facing the Red Raiders in Lubbock will be a tough test that Oregon will ultimately win, while the other two matchups should be easy victories considering the teams won a combined seven games last season.

Up next are Colorado and Stanford, which won four total games in 2022, followed by another difficult road game vs. Washington. Expect easy wins over the Buffaloes and Cardinal, but a loss to QB Michael Penix and the Huskies, bringing the Ducks to 5-1.

Oregon will then rebound impressively from the Washington loss, going undefeated in its final six games, including marquee wins over Utah, USC, and Oregon State. The Ducks are fortunate enough to play the Trojans and Beavers at Autzen Stadium, and the home-field advantage will prove crucial.

This leaves the Ducks with an 11-1 record heading into the Pac-12 Championship game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The Arkansas native had a monster 2022 campaign, throwing for 3,593 yards and 29 touchdowns. Equally as impressive was Nix’s ability to avoid turnovers, as he threw seven interceptions in 409 attempts.

During Bo’s three seasons at Auburn, he tossed 16 interceptions in 34 games. He’s superb at avoiding costly mistakes, which leads to more opportunities to rack up passing stats.

Nix will also enjoy the return of Franklin, who tallied 891 receiving yards last year. Look for Nix to cruise past his passing yards total.
