Oregon Football Preview 2023: Oregon Picks for Betting
Dan Lanning was a nice hire for Oregon, but as expected, the ’22 schedule had more than a few challenges. 10-3 was more than acceptable.
This year’s goal is a) a Pac 12 title while USC and UCLA are still here, and b) an invitation to the playoffs.

Oregon Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH
QB Bo Nix exceeded all expectations a year ago. I expected 5.0 running the ball. Oregon exceeded that, going 5.75-223+. My biggest concern is the OL, with four new starters.
Oregon QB’s were sacked sparingly a year ago. Will that continue? The pass D% was higher than expected at 64.5%, and the run defense was too high at 4.65 per carry. Most teams exceeded their yearly per carry average when running vs. Oregon.
Oregon lost players at each level of defense, including a 1st rounder in the secondary, but two solid transfers were brought in, plus this experienced unit has one year under the new staff.
The Pac 12 is full of highly accurate QB’s for ’23, so I’m using 61.5% this year, along with a 4.15 per carry allowed projection. Once a sore spot, the overall kicking game has improved.
With a top tier coordinator, we may see additional improvement. Oregon recruited very well this offseason. My biggest watch area is defensive sacks. 16 sacks is way too low for a projected top 10-15 team.
Oregon Football2023 Predictions, Oregon Schedule:
Only the game at Texas Tech can prevent the Ducks from a 5-0 start. This will be a good defensive test for both teams. Both Oregon and Washington will be rested before their game.
The Huskies won last year on a last-minute kick. Even with a letdown, Oregon should win hosting Washington State. The game at Utah is a tossup, no matter where it’s played. USC and Oregon haven’t met since Covid ’20.
Which defense is better going into this game? The game at Arizona State won’t get Oregon’s best focus, but like with WSU, they should win. Obvious revenge exists vs Oregon State.
Oregon Football Bottom Line:
10-2, with more possible. This team is poised to make big strides in ’23, even with some tossup games on the docket.
Avoid hiccups at Texas Tech, vs. Washington State and at Arizona State and the season comes down to games at Washington, at Utah and home to USC. Check defensive progress early and often.
Oregon Football HANDICAPPING TIP:
I hit 80+% in PAC 12 action in 2021, but was 0-3 here, plus one of my two bowl losses. That was fixed in ’22 (72% in the PAC 12, 4-1 here). My leans are no vs. early on, lean vs. 10/21 (WSU), and dog only 10/28 (Utah).
