Ova Charged begins road to 2023 Breeders' Cup at Fair Grounds
Ova Charged won the Happy Ticket Stakes for older Louisiana-bred females. She was not racing since March. Trainer Jose Camejo wants to enter her in the Breeders’ Cup next year. Jockey Jose Rodriguez rode a triple on his first day riding at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. The horse has a 7: 6-1-0 record and $264,600 in earnings. The race was one of three restricted stakes on the opening day Friday program at the Fair grounds.
A G's Charlotte won the Big World Stakes for older Louisiana-bred females. It was the first stakes win for trainer Patricia West. Front runner Cheapskate Diva won by 5 lengths. Winning Romance was second. A G’s Charlotte's jockey Marcelino Pedroza Jr. let her loose at the wire to nail Winning romance.
Free Drop Maddy won the Donovan L. Ferguson Stakes by 6 3/4 lengths. She had two disappointing races at Delta Downs and one at Churchill Downs. Free Drop Billy has won five races in five starts. Saturday's live racing resumes at Fair Grounds at 2:15 p.m. EST. Three more Louisiana-bred St.akes are featured on the nine-race program. The Joseph R. Peluso Memorial (race 5), the Scott’s Scoundrel ( race 7) and the Monte Man (racer 8) are on Saturday.
