Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks 2023 betting tips and predictions

There are some fantastic races taking place on the second day of the York Ebor Festival, including a couple of hot group contests, but none of the other six races are quite as hot as the Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks, which will be the feature race of the day at the North Yorkshire venue.

The Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks is a Group 1 race open to fillies and mares only. The race will be run over just short of one mile and four furlongs. This is not only the best race of the day, but one of the top races of the whole meeting. The winning connections will pocket a cool £283,550 in prize money.

Our betting tips and predictions for the Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks

Wednesday’s feature race was disappointing in terms of turn out, what with only four runners, but Thursday’s feature offers punters much more meat to sink their teeth into. 10 runners are due to go to post and if the early betting is anything to go by, this is as competitive as anything you’re likely to see.

Our best prediction: Free Wind @ 5/1

It’s hard to stress just how competitive this race looks, there really are several in with serious chances. Savethelastdance is likely to go off favourite as the Ryan Moore/Aidan O’Brien runner, though that performer is perhaps better suited by a softer surface. Her previous effort on firmer ground wasn’t as good as her runs on softer ground, which would be a concern.

Al Husn proved to be good enough for Group 1 company at Glorious Goodwood, though she’s another who was suited by the soft surface.

Frankie came out on top in the big race yesterday and he may just be on the right one again here. Free Wind is a proven good-to-firm winner, while she’s also won at York before. Sure, she didn’t fire at Goodwood last time out, but the heavy ground was perhaps to blame.

In relation to this race, the form of her Group 2 win at York back in May look positive, as this really isn’t the deepest of Group 1 contests.

Our each-way prediction: Warm Heart @ 8/1

Ryan Moore may be on Savethelastdance here, which tells us which of the O’Brien pair that he prefers, though the decision probably wasn’t an easy one.

Warm Heart should not be discounted here, and if you want one at bigger odds, then she could be just the ticket. She didn’t enjoy the soft ground at Curragh last time out, but will be much more at home on this faster surface.

After all, we’re talking about a horse who won a very competitive Group 2 race in impressive fashion at Royal Ascot. A return to that level of form should see the filly make her presence felt.
