Phoenix Zoo honors World Series wager. Here's how

Following the Arizona Diamondbacks' defeat against the Texas Rangers in the World Series, the Phoenix Zoo is making good on a Facebook wager it took up with the Fort Worth Zoo.

The Dallas-area zoo posted a video on Oct. 27 to Facebook and tagged the Phoenix Zoo asking for "a friendly wager," the stakes of which were the naming of a Western diamondback rattlesnake after something related to the opposing Major League Baseball team. The Phoenix Zoo accepted the bet, writing in a Facebook post from Tuesday, "We believe in our Arizona Diamondbacks so much that we're willing to wager one of our own dbacks!"

The Fort Worth Zoo had wagered naming a diamondback of their own after the DBacks player of the Phoenix Zoo's choosing."Congrats to the Texas Rangers and Fort Worth Zoo on the World Series win! It is now time for us to make good on our bet... so without further ado, meet Ranger, the Western diamondback," read a Facebook post from Thursday. "Thanks for the great run Arizona Diamondbacks, we can't wait to bring the chaos next year!"

"By the way, I'll have him in the mail first thing in the morning," Phoenix Zoo CEO Bert Castro said jokingly in an accompanying Facebook video.

The video shows a blue plaque with the Major League Baseball and World Series logos being hung.

"It was an exciting run and we know our D-backs will B-back next year to bring the chaos!" the plaque reads in part.

The Western diamondback snake is found in Arizona and Texas, as well as California, New Mexico, Oklahoma and the northern half of Mexico, according to information on the Arizona-Sonora Wildlife Museum website.
