Two races to go from Newmarket

Still time to find a winner if results haven’t gone your way this afternoon.

RESULT: Blown By Wind takes race seven

An apt winner in the conditions, Blown By Wind is yet another winner this week for Mark Johnson. Favourite Nahaarr was too keen and Qaysar was way off the pace early, leaving himself with too much ground to make up.

Pogo finished well to grab second.

FULL RESULT:

1. Blown By Wind 6/1

2. Pogo 13/2

3. Qaysar 9/2

Horrible weather at Newmarket

They’ve had rain, wind, hail and even a bit of thunder and lightning. And it’s only 12C.

Just as well crowds are not in attendance this afternoon.

Race seven coming up at 4.45pm

Mirror Racing tipster Newsboy has gone for QAYSAR in this one.

Tom Marquand, who finished tenth in the 2,000 Guineas on Royal Dornoch, his first ride for leading trainer Aidan O’Brien, is on the favourite NAHAARR.

BLOWN BY WIND, for the in-form Mark Johnston, also has plenty of potential.

Kameko the new Derby favourite

Kameko is 4-1 favourite (from 8-1) with Coral for next month’s Investec Derby, following his victory in this afternoon’s Qipco 2,000 Guineas.

Friday’s impressive Lingfield Derby Trial winner, English King, is 9-2 (from 6-1) second favourite for the Epsom Blue Riband, ahead of Military March at 7-1.

The Derby is run over half a mile further than the Guineas on July 4.

“Having won the delayed first Classic of this unusual season, as well as a Group 1 over a mile as a juvenile, Kameko has earned his place as favourite to complete the Guineas Derby double,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“Impressive Lingfield winner, English King, is his closest market rival.”

Racing fans unpick Pinatubo's run

RESULT of race six: Favourite Montatham scores

The 1-2-3 for the 4.10pm, the Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Handicap:

1. Montatham 5/2f

2. Ambassadorial 14/1

3. Alfred Boucher 7/1

"It's the stuff of dreams"

Oisin Murphy expressed his delight from underneath his face mask.

“It means the world,” he told ITV.“

“It’s the stuff of dreams.

“His work has been smart. We were pleased with him and today was going to be a fact finding mission. I had a nice position behind Arizona which was my plan.

Murphy said Kameko ‘got lost’ at around the half way point and he’s not sure why, but he finished with real purpose.

“He came home really well and he has got loads of guts,” Murphy added.

What happened to Pinatubo?

Jockey William Buick reported to ITV Racing that Pinatubo ran his race but bumped into two better horses on the day.

Story of the race

Punters were cheering as Pinatubo hit the front, but the cavalry were coming.

Aidan O’Brien’s second string challenged on his outside under Dettori, with outsider Juan Elcano running a brave race on the rail.

Oisin Murphy was forced to switch around horses with Military March next to him, as the race developed in earnest.

A slight drift from Kameko gave backers a nervy moment, but he was staying on powerfully with his massive stride.

The winning distance was a neck, with a length back to Pinatubo in third.

FULL RESULT: 3.35pm Qipco 2,000 Guineas

A first Classic success for reigning champion jockey Oisin Murphy.

Kameko charging home

He’s eating up the ground, rattling home. Wichita challenges, Pinatubo is there....

Drama at the start!

They're off!

The runners are racing from the stalls in the first Classic of 2020.

Place your last minute bets!

The runners have arrived at the post and are about to go behind the stalls.

Aidan O'Brien seeks 11th 2,000 Guineas

Aidan O’Brien has won the last three renewals of the 2,000 Guineas. It would be his 11th success today.

Is Kameko the real deal?

Oisin Murphy and Andrew Balding seem quietly confident.

“He’s the highest rated two-year-old we’ve seen in 25 years...he ticks a lot of boxes going into the race”
