Night 14 preview

World Champion Peter Wright's clash with Michael van Gerwen looks to be the key encounter in Sheffield as the Premier League reaches Night 14.

James Wade's withdrawal due to illness means we are down to just three quarter-finals matches in the Steel City, but that may boost the playoff chances of Joe Cullen, who receives a bye into the semis.

Jonny Clayton has already booked his spot in Berlin and MVG and Wade are almost certain to join the Welshman. However, an early defeat for Snakebite could open the door for Rockstar.

Gary Anderson v Gerwyn Price

Head-to-head: Price leads 8-6

2022 Premier League: Price 6-3 (W2)

Gary Anderson has won just one match in the last seven nights of Premier League action and has been on the end of some heavy defeats.

The Flying Scotsman defeated Wright in Glasgow a week ago but he was previously hammered 6-2 by Michael Smith in Dublin and he suffered losses by the same scoreline against Clayton and Wade in the previous two Premier League evenings.

Gerwyn Price has run into some inspired performances in recent weeks. The Iceman was on the wrong end of a 114 average from Wade two weeks ago and a near-107 seven days earlier against MVG.

Anderson is unlikely to put up similar numbers and backing Price -1.5 legs on the handicap looks a bet.

Michael van Gerwen v Peter Wright

Head-to-head: Van Gerwenleads 55-15

2022 Premier League: Van Gerwen6-1 (W2), Van Gerwen 6-0 (W4), Van Gerwen 6-3 (W9)

Van Gerwen has dominated Wright in this year's Premier League and the Dutchman comes to Sheffield in top form having won the European Darts Open last weekend.

MVG has dropped just four legs in three matches against Snakebite in this year's event and could put a dent in the Scot's playoff hopes with another victory this evening.

However, that is reflected in the prices and punters can afford to miss the 8-15 on offer about the Green Machine.

Michael Smith v Jonny Clayton

Head-to-head: Smith leads 8-5

2022 Premier League: Clayton6-2 (W2), Smith 6-2 (W5), Clayton 6-1 (W8), Clayton 6-4 (W12)

Clayton is sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table and Smith's playoff hopes are all but over.

However, that doesn't mean the Welshman is a good thing. Smith played some excellent darts when winning the Players Championship 14 event earlier this week and Bully Boy was only stopped by an inspired Van Gerwen last week in Glasgow.

The St Helens slinger seems to have found his rhythm again and at 13-10 he looks worth backing to upset the Ferret.
