Premier League player charged with 375 breaches of the FA's betting rules

Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo has been charged by the Football Association for 375 breaches of their betting rules.

A statement from the FA spokesperson read: "Nottingham Forest's Harry Toffolo has been charged with misconduct in relation to our betting rules.

"It's alleged that the defender breached FA Rule E1 (b) 375 times between 22 January 2014 and 18 March 2017. Harry Toffolo has until Wednesday 19 July 2023 to provide his response."

Toffolo was with Norwich City at the time of the alleged offences. The 27-year-old never made a senior appearance for the Canaries, spending time on loan at Swindon, Rotherham, Peterborough, Scunthorpe and Doncaster.

He was forced to move down the pyramid in search of regular game time, establishing himself at Lincoln City before signing for Huddersfield Town in January 2020.

Forest bought him last summer as part of their recruitment drive after earning promotion to the Premier League. He's made 21 appearances in all competitions for Steve Cooper's side since then.

The FA charging Toffolo comes after Brentford striker Ivan Toney was given an eight-month ban and fined £50,000 in May for his breaches of their betting rules.

A statement from the governing body at that time read: "The Brentford FC forward was charged with 262 breaches of FA Rule E8 in total between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021.

"The FA subsequently withdrew 30 of these breaches and he admitted to the remaining 232."

An independent regulatory commission imposed Toney's sanctions, which include him not being able to train with his team-mates until September.

That panel is made up of senior figures within the game as well as lawyers and former high court judges.

Toney avoided a longer ban, believed to have been 15 months in length, as he was diagnosed with a gambling addiction.
