Second Premier League star slammed with massive 375 betting charges

A second Premier League footballer has been charged with breaching the FA’s betting regulations, it has been announced.

Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo, who appeared 21 times for Forest last season, reportedly breached the regulations a mammoth 375 times in a three-year period between January 2014 and March 2017.

The FA revealed the news in an official statement on Wednesday, and have given the 27-year-old seven days to respond to the charges.

It is alleged that he broke FA Rule E1(b) on 375 occasions.

Toffolo, who only joined Forest in the summer of 2022, was contracted to Norwich City during that period but spent time on loan with Peterborough, Swindon Town, Rotherham United and Scunthorpe United, making just 2 FA Cup appearances for the Canaries before he left on a permanent basis.

The news comes just months after Brentford star Ivan Toney was also charged with 252 offences, and subsequently found guilty of 232 of them, resulting in an eight-month ban from any footballing activity for the England striker, who will not step foot back on a pitch until 2024.

It remains unclear whether Toffolo, who has over 100 more charges laid against him, would be in for a similar ban should he be found guilty, with Toney’s the most severe betting ban seen in English football thus far.

Forest are yet to provide a response, though Toffolo is believed to be back in training at the City Ground ahead of the new season as things stand, having not been on international duty.

The news comes amid yet more scrutiny on gamblings relationship with football after Toney’s ban, with clubs having agreed to remove gambling shirt sponsors by the beginning of the 2026-27 season, but as of yet no regulations placed on pitchside or television advertising.
