Prep football predictions: Morgan-Grantsville showdown, Davis Co. rivalries highlight Week 8

Morgan and Grantsville are playing for the 3A North championship and a top-two seed in the playoffs on Friday. There are also some spicy rivalries in Davis County.

Grantsville (7-0, 2-1) won both games last year to sweep the region and state championships. Morgan ( 7-2, 1-3) has won every game this year by at least 40 points.

Juan Diego is having a down year. Ogden's defense is leaky. The Tigers can score enough points through the air and ground to nullify Juan Diego's rushing inroads.

Roy (4-3, 2-1 Region 2) is looking for a winning record for the 11th straight season. Cyprus (3-4, 1-2) runs the ball nearly 44 times per game and throws it about 8.5 times.

Bonneville plays Northridge in the Cancer Awareness game on Friday. Bonneville's offense is very fast. Northridge's defense will be tested.

Fremont has won the last four meetings with Syracuse. Syracuse's defense has 11 interceptions. Fremont's quarterbacks have thrown a combined 16 picks.

Ben Lomond plays Union. The computers are projecting a close game. Union has been vulnerable against teams that pass the ball a lot.

Weber's (1-6) bright spot is freshman wideout Salesi Moa, who's up to 33 catches for 596 yards and three touchdowns. Weber is up against a good team at Olympus (3-4).

Farmington (7-0, 3-1 Region 1) is the only team that can pass. Davis (4-3, 2-2) relies on the pass and is at home. The rivalry is called the Backyard Battle and the teams play for a gold and teal chain.

Layton's (4-3, 1-1 Region 1) have played Clearfield (0-7, 0-4) the most out of anyone in school history and lead the series 28-25. Elias Parkinson has six touchdown catches and two interceptions.

Woods Cross and Box Elder are playing each other in Week 8. Woods Cross has won three in a row and four of the last five. Box elder has lost three of its last four games.

Bountiful (5-2, 3-0 Region 5) has won four straight games. Viewmont (4-3, 1- 2) is having problems this year. BHS leads the all-time rivalry series 34-23.

Bear River plays Ridgeline in a tough region game. The game could be close or a comfortable win for Ridgeeline.

Layton Christian is coming off back-to-back wins against Kanab and Duchesne. Sugar-Salem is an Idaho 3A school that does everything well with an explosive offense and a watertight defense.

Sugar-Salem is the favorite in this week's game.
